I am going to lose 9 stone by Christmas

Yes I damn well am.

After dithering for so long and progressively putting on more weight with each pregnancy I am now almost 18 stone .

I was half that just 8 years ago.

So now more bullshit excuses. From today I am going to:

  • start a 3 day juicing detox
  • force myself to look at myself naked in the mirror at least once a week
  • cut out all sugar and processed foods
  • cut out alcohol
  • drink lots of water
  • follow a low GI diet
  • exercise at least 3 times a week

This is going to be about a lifechange for me. I have even set up a Twitter page to track my progress.

I WILL DO THIS!!

(and yes, in my shame, I have namechanged)

yeh, girl go for it!

have you considered going to the gp?

they might be able to give you more advice

fattybmbm · 03/01/2010 13:19

I have been to the GP and through that got one session with a nutritionalist, which is where I got the guidance to follow low GI. She also took my bloods and checked thyroid. Thyroid is OK but am missing some nutrients, so supplementing them initially with vitamin tablets.

Hi there

Do you have a Curves gym near you. I have started going there, you only need to go 3 times a week and they do your weigh and measure once a month too. It is only 3 half hour sessions a week but it is really good and does work, you can just pop in before you go to the shop etc. They also do a weight management programme with weight loss books etc. I would seriously look into the, here

bargainhuntingbetty · 04/01/2010 11:08

Oh and good luck x

fattybmbm · 04/01/2010 11:27

Thanks - I hadn't heard of Curves before. There isn't one particularly convenient to me, butI will look into whether I could make it work by going there. I have found another gym in town too which I can go to during my lunch hours.

Fab. Good luck. 9 stone is loads, is that really ok to try & do in a single year? Not that I want to discourage you, quite the opposite!

beyondfurious · 05/01/2010 09:10

Wonderful!

But I think you need a separate reward list too instead of just the 'punishment' list

  1. facial/mani/pedi after first stone
  2. after resisting at a family party a new bag etc
  3. a night away in a hotel with dh after 2 stone

and smaller rewards too - nice coffee and a book out in town after managing to get through a Monday.

Good Luck OP, just to let you know it CAN be done!

My friend started last September at over 21stone, she joined ww and a gym and is now just under 12 stone 7lb. She has been in the gym at least 4 times a week and the results are quite amazing.

Am hoping to follow in her foot steps this year!

wonderif · 05/01/2010 09:32

weight watchers is the best two girls from our meetings lost over 9 stone and about 8 stone.

good luck

fattybmbm · 05/01/2010 09:57

thanks for all your encouragement.

beyoondfurious - I like the reward plan. Will definitely set myself some lovely rewards

LisaD1 - your friend's story is very inspiring. Did she lose all that since Sept 2009 or Sept 2008? (I am assuming Sept 2008)

Dorothea - it is safe to lose it in a year. I checked with my GP. It will require a steady weight loss of 2-3 pounds per week, which is not excessive.

Korma - you can do it! I have thyroid problems too, so I know what you are up against

It was September 2008 when she started so just over a year.
