apple shaped - best diet?

PrivetDancer · 26/12/2009 22:27

I'm very definitely an apple shape (ie a fecking barrel on pipe cleaners) and need to lose at least 2 stone - 3 would get me down to wedding weight and be fantastic!

Any other apples out there had good results with any particular diet? Weight watchers has worked quite well for me in the past, so I could just do that again, but I feel like doing something 'different'. Detox type diets have not done me well - I once did 28 days of saintliness and lost a mere 3 lbs!! Am also veggie so Atkins not really an option

Weight watchers it is then I guess! Is it too soon to be talking about diets or something

colette · 28/12/2009 14:12

I am impressed that you are planning to diet

MrsMattie · 28/12/2009 14:14

Sorry to say, but I think exercise is the true friend of apple-shaped folk, not dieting

Cardio 3 times a week and one weekly pilates / core training session and you WILL see results.

PrivetDancer · 28/12/2009 15:39

Noooo! That sounds far too sensible! I need a magical Aztec secret supplement, not exercise

Privet - I'm an apple like you, also anti-exercise, apart from swimming which does not exactly get my heart rate going!

I also need to lose 2-3 stone so thought I'd come and join you, but can't think of dieting until I go back to work after new year.

What size are you just now?

PrivetDancer · 28/12/2009 20:44

Hi sparkly!

Well I like to think i'm a 16, but seem to have put on half a stone in the last month, so am kidding myself really! so erm 16-18. You? What diet are you thinking of or haven't you got that far yet?

Ewe · 28/12/2009 20:55

I'm an apple and have found SW and low carbing successful... however, I need to do something again because I piled weight I lost last summer back on big time!

I'm a 14-16 and would like to lose 3 stone too.

I'm same as you Privet - think of myself as a 16 but have a pair of size 18 trousers from M&S - always used to think M&S defined what sizes were...

Not got as far as deciding on a diet yet, Ewe is SW = slimming world? Going to start in earnest next week!

Support on MN would be really helpful..

PrivetDancer · 28/12/2009 21:22

ooh no, m&s have small waists sometimes and are fairly random. Monsoon is good for staying a size 16

I have done slimming world and it was good for a while - it's certainly easy to do without being hungry, but I can eat a lot of food so find the portion controls of counting calories / points quite important for me. Might try to keep it low carb at the same time too.

I also need to cut out the booze - January is going to be a dry month!

I have ordered an exercise bike too! There's bob hope of me getting to a gym / swimming pool, something I can do while watching corrie stands more chance.

Just got to get through all the booze and food in the house in the next few nights now..

marking my place for the new year

Dominique07 · 28/12/2009 21:27

Hi I'm not sure if I'm an apple but my clothes don't fit and I'm wearing DP's jogging trousers... please can I join in the diet!?

PrivetDancer · 28/12/2009 21:32

of course! jogging bottoms are my default trouser.

I remember being gutted when dh's jeans seemed a bit snug. They look like kid's clothes next to me nowadays.

dixia · 29/12/2009 09:40

I need to lose 3 stone too and looking for people to create a support network with. Thinking of SW.

I can't fit into any of my clothes and getting v depressed about it. The thing I hate the most is not being able to get shirts on because they are too tight around the arm. That makes me feel really really lardy

Oh, well. I'm sure that if I plan properly and work out exactly what I am doing, then I can be successful.

zookeeper · 29/12/2009 09:47

Hello ladies. Can I join you? I am definitely an apple - I'm too horrified to measure my waist because I know I'll be too depressed.

I'm starting now if I put on another half a stone before new year (which I could easily do ) I'll pop.

I am trying to eat less processed food, more veg and cut out bread - have just had two scrambled eggs for breakfast with tomatoes.

The weight has been creeping on since ds was born 8 years ago - I got on the scales last week and was pushing 15 stone!!!!!! I remember feeling fat at ten and a half. It seems so much that I get disheartened.

I would love to lose at least two stone - I'm five 8. My dd's birthday is on Jan 17 so am aiming to be ten pounds lighter for then. i

PrivetDancer · 29/12/2009 13:27

Hi zookeeper! I'm impressed with you starting early, although I know what you mean, I'm going to have an extra few pounds to lose by Friday morning too. Also scared of measuring waist but want to have it as a measure of progress, so might bite the bullet and do it.

How does this work then? Shall we keep using this thread to track progress or start a better titled one?

I'm going to start Friday anyway. Wish the new year started on a Monday, it would seem so much more palatable than starting just before a weekend!

OP posts:
dixia · 29/12/2009 17:25

Think we should start a better titled thread then others will find us more easily and we will form a legion of fat busters! I am very keen to have a good support network - feel more motivated already.

madamearcati · 29/12/2009 17:40

Hi can I join you.I'm a good 4 stone overweight and apple shaped.I have 4 Dc and managed to lose the weight after the first but not since the others.
I started with WW online on Monday.
My DH bought me a butchers shop pork and apple pie today which had gorgeous crumbly crisp pastry and lovely moist filling. The sensible thing would have been to cut it in 4 and enjoy one piece a day but no I wolfed it all down and then when I poinetd it -12 POINTS.Anyhow have been out walking 2 hours this afternoon , so will be able to pull it back !
For me exercise is the key to weight loss.I used to enjoy running (well more slow jogging really) but I need to get some weight off before I do that or I'll hurt my joints.

mummymels · 29/12/2009 19:45

Hi everyone, can I join you please? I am apple shaped and in dire need of losing weight. I have been dieting the last couple of months already although I have to admit I did slack a bit over Christmas. I am doing Go Lower and have started losing a lot of weight but I still have a long way to go.

PrivetDancer · 29/12/2009 21:18

Hello mummymels and madamearcati

Soooo anyone got any ideas for a thread name then? something to do with apples I suppose.

I'm really quite excited about this now - reckon i can do without the weekly ww meetings if we have an online weekly weigh in.

my ocado delivery today was quite different to the pre-christmas one there was salad in it!!

OP posts:
dixia · 29/12/2009 21:34

I have just joined Slimming World online as I know I wont be able to get to the weekly meetings and that is where I have failed before. So quite excited about prospect of an online mumsnet Weigh In.

Privet, how about "The 2010 Apple Challenge" or "Apple to Hour-Glass". Too cheesy?

Maybe now is not the best time to mention that I am probably more of a classic Pear. TBH, I now have an apple and a pear. But I am not leaving the thread!

PrivetDancer · 29/12/2009 22:50

at apple AND pear

apple to hour glass may be slightly cheesy, but given that I'll be barely eating any cheese for a while I think it is required - set that baby up!
