Just wondering if anyone counts calories? Do you find it works? How many do you think we should take a day?

yes it absolutely works. It is indirectly how ALL diets work unless you believe in the atkins magic

HOW many a day?
depending on your size and activity levels, between 1200 and 1800 a day.

Loads on the interweb

i don't have the dicipline in the past few months i halved my main lunch and evening meals as i was eating the same amount as ds and stopped snacking in between meals, which was and is incredibly difficult. i haven't changed my diet, just the portions and have lost just under 2 stone so far. about 1800 i would think as average.

Thanks jasper and secretgardin for your responses. It is interesting to read. I have always found it hard to diet and have tried calorie counting before but never seem to get on with it. I wonder if it is something I should try again and try to get it right this time although at the moment I am trying something completely different and it is working but just not sure which is the better way.

but Atkins IS magic!

if low-cal isn't working, low-carb might be worth a shot?

Lost 15lb in 2 months on Atkins. Have gone on maintenance (less strict than the uber induction phase) pre-xmas and haven't put the weight back on.

this is going to sounds really dumb but how do you calorie count???
not all food packing clearly tells you how many calories there are or make it difficult to understand.... thats why i like the green light system and clear labeling packing they are using on some foods.

Calorie counting definitely works.

Try www.foodfocus.co.uk/home.php
Its a really good free website. It will give you a calorie allowance depending on how much you want to lose etc.

Recording your food daily helps too. It will also give you the calorie count of most food as long as you can put in the weight.

I used to weigh cereal, rice etc but you soon get used to the amounts and how much cals are in them and won't need to weigh them.

When I need a boost, I go low carb too. I find not eating carbs for dinner really speeds up weight loss.

Good luck

imovethestarsfornoone - I am losing weight at the moment but just wondered in comparison. The diet I am doing at the moment doesn't count calories. In fact I have lost 2 stone in 2 months so far.

Thank Bobbybee, I will have a look at that website.
