Fat lower back - how do I shift that then???!

Was standing near a different mirror after I got out the bath (leapt towards nearest tv when I realised X Factor had started and I was missing Ollie, but that's another story!!) and noticed I have a round patch of fat on top of my coccyx (sp?). I'm sure that wasn't there before having kids.

But HOW DO I GET RID OF IT??? It's horrible...

come on, somebody must surely be able to help - I rely on mumsnet to give me an answer to my every most ridiculous question. Are there some special exercises I can do to target this area or is it simply a weight loss thing??

Help?!

Any fat is a weight loss thing - you can't lose it from specific areas you just have to lose it in general and it will go from that area.

Think of it this way: everyone stores fat in different places, with women and men having broadly defined similarities respectively. Individuals will retain fat according to their unique make-up.

So, if I have fat thighs (which I do) then I have to lose weight until I have no excess that requires storage on said thighs. if you have no excess then it will not deposit itself anywhere undesirable because it will cease to exist!

Ok I think I know this.

You know you do sit ups? there's something called an "extension" machine, or something like that. It helps you do sit ups backwards.

So If you imagine a right angled triangle, your body is down the slide face down, your feet are lodged under rolly things, and your hips are at the top of the triangle.

You then do "back ups"! But you need to go to a gym for this, maybe you could google how to do it without the machine. At the gym there would be lower back machines anyway.

I don't know how you could replicate this safely unless you get your children to sit on your legs while you hang over the sofa or off the end of the bed.

but stuffit, the fat will still just sit on top of the muscle...

stuffitllllama · 15/11/2009 14:04

not in my experience, it does seem to go, also if you do the extensions sideways they get rid of muffins (am at gym and not dieting so it can't be anything else)

maybe it's just the first place for fat to go -- like, last on first off

certainly I still have plenty of fat on my bottom and my thighs which has been my friend for some years now

thank you both, combined result of amusing and useful answer!! (I am laughing at the image of me attempting that exercise)

You're so right hobgoblin. No more cakes for me
