Issue at Slimming World!!

Ive been "doing"! SW for the last 6 weeks and losing slowly but surely! However after a bad week and my star day! I went to get weighed last night and I put on 5LB!! This was then told to me loudly, so loudly that women waiting in the queue to pay heard the number and were discussing it, altho they were presuming I lost so the woman weighing me (the consultants mum) then corrected them by loudly shouting (as they were in the other queue) NO SHE PUT IT ON!
I was so upset. This cant be right surely? Should it not be for me to decide if I want to tell others in the group exactly how much Ive put on? I dont mind other knowing ive gained but is it the SW way to tell everyone exactly how much?

you need to contact your consultant I too would have been mortified to the point of not going back

Well done for your steady weight loss, one gain is nothing, keep focused and on track - you are doing better than me since my brother's wedding (which was my motivation) I appear to have fallen of the wagon and think I have pretty much put it all back on (haven't been for about 5 weeks now)

Inspirachion · 05/11/2009 12:39

I have found it like this too generally.

Heres an example of something along those lines that happened to me last month.

I tried to tell my sw consultant in private in the corner of the room that i was pregnant and needed a little dieting guidance. (explained healthy eating and diet were partly due to recent miscarriage and needing to be sure I was doing all the right things)

She said 'well just carry on as you are. Give this form to your midwife.' She then scooted off to tell someone else the dangers of eating too many bananas when wanting to loose weight . so i rejoined the queue to be weighed.

Some mins later she asked loudly across the queue of about 30 people "So is it your first baby? Wish I'd never had any the trouble my two are giving me!"

I have since miscarried again and haven't been able to bring myself to tell her since confidentiality and sensitivity training have obviously evaded her . Not that shes asked me since anyway

I just now run in to get weighed and go home again.

However don't be put off by this incident the diet is FABULOUS. It works I have lost 4 stone so far with them since January. I read and re read the books - the consultants (i've had two at different classes) part in this in both cases has been to supply me the books to read, get someone else to weight me write it down and give stickers when it works and collect £4.50 in the cash tin every week.

Good luck x

what a horrible thing to do!!! That is so not on, contact your consultant straight away and explain how you are feeling.

Misskittykat · 05/11/2009 12:55

Ive just emailed her. Felt a bit awknward as its her mum but im so upset that I had to. Will def not give up tho ive lost just over a stone so far but think i might join a diff group.

Good for you Misskittykat!

StrawberriesandCherries · 05/11/2009 20:00

Well done, am sure it wasnt easy but she would rather know - others might have had this happened to them and just stopped going without telling her why. Let us know what she says!!!

ConnieComplaint · 08/11/2009 19:36

OMG - have just saw this thread & I'm so shocked & angry on your behalf!!

I have to say that although our consultant can be a bit rude at times, there's no way she'd say anything to the rest of the queue about our weight!!

Our consultant will say when you've gained, the last one would have said, "You've had a little gain this week" this one says "You've gained 2lb this week, how did you manage that in one short week??"

And you're right too Inspirachion, ours gives very little advice, the talk is anything but motivational, she never ever gives body magic awards, even though some of us ask about them a lot... the classes consist of her taking our money, trying to flog the scanbran & mags etc...

The weight I have lost (2 stone since JAnuary) has not been thanks to her - it's thanks to the support of the rest of the members & I have met some nice friends there too - I just don't count the consultant as one of them.

StrawberriesandCherries · 09/11/2009 22:39

Any news MissKittyKat?

Ivykaty44 · 10/11/2009 21:53

Ask for your money back - they are supposed to be getting you to lose weight not put it on - not a good club and silly of them to advertise the fact they are c*ap

Go and find a club that know what they are doing - good luck with the weight lose and well done for what you have lost,

Oh and doun't you fell akward due to family employment - its not your fault

One bad Consultant doesn't make Slimming World 'crap'. In fact, they are just the opposite and would be appalled if they knew about this incident.

I would urge Misskittykat to have a word with her Consultant and ask her to tell her weighing-in lady to be more discreet.

Slimming World make a point of there being no humiliation within the groups and anyone who feels that they have been humiliated should contct SW headquarters and report the Consultant concerned.

We have regular training days

jananet · 13/11/2009 20:16

Sorry about that, I hit the post button too soon.

As I was saying, all Consultants are meant to have regualr training days and one of the things which is brought up at every one of them is the no humiliation rule.

Misskittykat, no this is not the SW way and we are only meant to say something along the lines of "Jane you've had a gain this week, what can we do to help ensure next week is better". It's dreadful tht you've been upset in this way.

Inspirachion, your Consultant is also wrong and I hope that you can gather the courage to go in and tell her why you don't stay to group anymore. I always tell my members that if they're not going to stay to group as often as possible, they may as well save some money and get weighed in Boots.

You pay the £4.50 a week to get unbeatable support and inspiration, not just to get weighed. If you're not getting that, you really should complain.

End of rant - sorry, but bad Consultants make me mad. They are a very bad advert for a brilliant company with a fantastic healthy eating regime which really works.

I used SW last year, and although i didnt lose amazing weight (i wasnt that big in the 1st place, but i really didnt follow it to the rule- the weeks when i really wanted to follow it properly i had amazing success) Our consultant was great-extremely discret for the ladies (and couple of men) who didnt want gains discussed in the group, the talks were also very informative, and were full on discussions with everybody. When i knew i would be going out for a meal i would ask the group for suggestions of what to eat, it was a great enviroment. Now that i really really need the group i dont live near one, which is so disapointing!

clankypanky · 25/11/2009 14:13

Slimmng world can work but can I point out it doesnt work for everyone, I gained weight and got really terrible IBS after having none for years.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 25/11/2009 14:19

I had someone like that (not Wokingham is it?) I quit in the end. When I 'only' lost 1/2 lb or 1lb she would huff at me as if it was really crap, I never had specific breastfeeding/SW advice (I since found out I think you add in another milk/cheese) but apart from that I loved slimming world , just not doing it anymore due to morning sickness but lost a stone very very easily. Don't worry about 5lb on - I put on 3lb in the first week then lost it and more the next.

tipsyloo · 03/12/2009 15:31

hi i have tried 4 different sw grps and they all said the amount members gained, its a good plan but felt that allowing all that access free foods was no good for me as , if they say bananas are free then i would sit and eat six, just because they were free, and i then had problems because i was eating too much meat on red days, my doctor now weighs me , suggested i had 3 veg portions at each meal, breakfast of healthy cereal, watch my portions eat 3 pieces fruit a day, only lean meat, and still have pots with the meat, watch the fats, oils etc, and i have lost 1 stone in 4 weeks. the express weigh at sw has made it less personal i think, has anyone else found that.
