So, has anyone managed to lose (a fairly significant amount) weight *without* dieting...

by which I mean not following WW/SW etc, but by doing the basics ie eating less and moving more.

I am shit at dieting. As soon as I am on a "diet" my fucked up head rebels. After ten years of yo yo dieting I have reached the stage where I would be glad to weigh what I did when I went on my first ever diet. I wish I'd known then what I know now - I should have just done a bit more exercise and left myself alone.

Help me anyone? Has anyone managed to lose, and more importantly, keep off, a decent amount of weight by just cutting down a bit and doing some exercise? Is this possible?

I have a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old and literally run out the door as soon as DP gets home from work!

I had all intentions of doing my Davina DVD tonight but had a twix instead! x

I lost quite a lot of weight before my wedding with some diet pills from South Africa! They were amazing, but are no longer available on the internet and am gutted. Since losing the weight have had another baby, and cannot get the tablets anymore!!!
It's hideous! As is my body!

Right - I have said I will start running before, but you've all inspired me to actually do it! Especially with the idea of just doing 10-15 mins. The hardest part is getting out the door! Will let you know how I get on...

I can't run as i have alot of metal in my ankle and even walk with a limp. I can cycle though - as it's not 'impact' sport. Can i lose weight cycling?

TanyaBranning · 20/10/2009 22:51

Yep, but it has taken me a while. I started moving more - just making sure I walked every day and was generally more active - and eating less about 8 months ago. I've lost almost 2 stone in that time. Felt like nothing was coming off, but gradually I have gone from a size 16 to a 12. Feel great. I still scoff takeaways (bit only once a week) and chocolate (just not every day). I have found a pattern that works for me which is basically small breakfast, small lunch, small afternoon snack and hearty dinner. Worked for me.

I'm 3-4 stones overweight and I've strarted the SW running programme (from one of the summer magazines). It's more walking than jogging but as I'm very unfit (haven't done exercise in years)I think that it suits me fine.

I also go running at 6-6.30am as my DH is still at home and can look after my DS (2yrs) should he wake up.

It's hard trying to get motivated but I'm so pleased that I've started. My only advice is to get a good supportive bra. (I'm a 36G) and places like M&S just don't cut it for me. I'd recommend John Lewis or Debenhams for a good sports bra.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

After DC2 I lost over 2 stone without dieting.

It took a year at least.

I threw scales out for a year. I did not eat snacks between meals, upped the fruit and veg, cut out desserts, and started to do exercise twice a week.

Nothing dramatic, and I made sure every meal was filling. I would eat cereal or toast with cheese or jam or egg for beakfast and fruit. Baked potato or sandwich or pasta for lunch, and a meat or fish with veg or salad and rice-pasta-potato for dinner. On occasion I would eat dessert or cake (party or birthdays) but would not make a habbit of it. Days my period is due I eat a Kitkat (no need to be too strict).

I also cut out fizzy drinks.

My diet is quite high in carbs I guess (but always combined with veg or salad) but if I cut out carbs for the main meals, I get weird cravings during the day for sugar.

This worked for me, still does, but it is a very slow way of doing it! Still, the weight stays off. Now have a BMI of 22.5.
