Paul McKenna weightloss system

C1NDY · 09/06/2009 09:47

Hi, I have just started the Paul McKenna weightloss system. Would be interested in anyone else who wants to join this journey with me. I have started the 90 days journal entry.

I went to Paul's seminar on Saturday and found it truly inspiring.

PLEASE DO NOT COME ON THIS THREAD AND TELL ME THAT PAUL MCKENNA DID NOT WORK FOR YOU. AS I AM SO INSPIRED THAT I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE FAILURES - THIS IS GOING TO BE A SUCESSFUL THREAD! If I follow Paul's rules I can't fail.

Look forward to anyone else wanting to share positive thoughts on this system.

Thanks
Cindy

Hi there, have done my first day, it was fine, I really listened to my hungry/not hungry feelings and went from there. We eat our dinner in front of the tv so I wasn't totally brilliant on the conscious eating thing but I did remember half way though. Will try to finish the book today.

C1ndy - how do you managed to walk nearly 19,000 steps in a day? That's amazing. Well done.

Jools - have you recently had a baby? I mean in the last year? That can play havoc with your weight loss. Your hormones will still be all over the place. It's very depressing for you to be eating all the right stuff and exercising and hardly to be losing at all. Keep going with this for another month and see where you are.

Right it's 5.15am here - gotta get on with work. Ugh.

Joolsiam · 16/06/2009 20:55

No, no baby yet I guess 3 MC's in ten months might have something to do with it though - hadn't thought of that.

We eat in front of the TV aswell, but I try to make sure I put my fork down between moutfulls now and make sure my mouth is fully empty before picking it up again. It really does make me feel fuller quicker

DP is confused, as he does the cooking - keeps thinking there is something wrong with his food because I eat so slowly and try to leave a little on my plate !

Have done a Pilates workout tonight (at home) - can't do my normal cardio work because of a back injury, but am really really beginning to notice the benefits of more Pilates - and my back is improving ...

ClaudiaSchiffer · 16/06/2009 22:40

Oh, Jools, 3 MC's in 10 months will really play havoc with your poor body. You poor love.

Lucky you having someone to do the cooking. My dh only cooks on the bbq - he MAN, loves FIRE, so great in the summer but mid-winter here and cold (australia).

Just weighed myself - as I thought, I have a stone to lose. I am DETERMINED to see this through. I am fed up of being too fat for my "fat" trousers.

C1NDY · 17/06/2009 09:33

Claudia don't worry about weighing yourself.. you will lose the weight.

I managed 16,689 steps yesterday... which is still beating my 15,000 steps a day which is grEAT!

Here is my day of execise walking:-

Morning
Walk to work - 20 mins
Take the stairs to the 6th Floor
Then general walking... i.e. walking to photocopier or to get cups of water/tea etc

Lunch
Walk for 45 minutes - brisk walk....

Afternoon
General walking around office
Leave work at 3pm... therefore walk to the station 20 min walk.
Pick up daughter (by car, am planning to walk one day!) and then play with her till she goes to bed.

Some how all the above equates to over 15,000 steps.

I am going to do this for a while but hopefully want to then get up every other morning and try to run 2 miles on my treadmill - should be easy now that its lighter in the morning but I am not a good riser.

Speak to you all soon.

I have loads to do today
Laters

I have a pedometre too, but it very very enthusiastically counts everything as a step!

I sit to read the paper and it tells me I have walked 300 steps!! I have had so many of these things and they all have done that. It really annoys me as I want to know what I actually walk, not the number of times I twitch!!

I paid heaps more for this one thinking it would be more likely to count properly...

Joolsiam · 17/06/2009 14:30

I have a pedometer but have never tried it

3 - 4 days per week, I have a 25 min hilly walk to work, and the same back plus I walk up the hill into town at lunchtime (another 20 min round trip)

I've had to cut back on high impact exercise because of a back injury, but have just got back from a lunchtime spinning class - I try to do 2 of those a week at the mo, plus dance aerobics, pilates and stretching classes. Hopefully I can add the high impact stuff back in soon as I really miss it

I'm bad ! Weighed myself today and the scales have moved downwards again !!!

C1NDY · 18/06/2009 09:09

BlueKat I am using a GCC one, which is for a global walk were doing at work. It has been measuring accurately and whilst I sit and type or do my paperwork it does not move at all. Go and buy a new one as it should not count whilst you are reading. I can understand if you were on a train or bus... but not when your sitting down. Pedemoters are only a rough guide to what you are doing. But I manage about 2 hours of exercise a day. We have a website on GCC that I can check how long the steps should have taken me and its about right, so I know I am moving more.

Jools the amount of exercise your doing gets me out of breath even thinking about it! Well done to you, you must have so much energy.

Jools great on the weight loss.

I had a little binge yesterday but found I had to stop as I was so full... I need to remember to do Paul's techniques... oh well a little blip.. Paul said this will happen. I just need to try and concentrate on the techniques so that this doesn't happen again. So I am back on practising of finding out if I am hungry, tasting every mouthful and then stopping when I am full. I guess Rome was not built in a day!! This is a small blip and hopefully I will learn from it.

Joolsiam · 19/06/2009 10:27

Well, 1 lb on today, which is depressing but since my period is imminent, I suspect it is water weight as I am feeling pretty bloated.

Had a trying on session last night - I have a fair few skirts etc still with labels on that I bought in the sales whilst on other diets on the assumption that I'd shrink into them shortly and I never did Virtually all of them now do up and will be wearable if I drop a couple more pounds, which is encouraging. Some other stuff I think needs throwing out as I've had it since the ealry 90's and is looking dated now (albeit brand new !)

I've decided that as soon as I can fit in to a couple more skirts comfortably, I'm going to have a big wardrobe clearout and only keep a handful of bigger items that will be useful in that period between getting PG and wearing maternity gear - if I ever get there !

gingernutlover · 20/06/2009 10:12

joolsiam i've been in the sAME BOAT THIS week, felt bloated and horrible for days so i stepped on scales this morning and 2 more off so I'm sure yours will show up next time, probably double. Theres al;ways a week in the month where theres no point weighing yourself isnt there

so this week i have had a couple of blips but its so easy to get back on the wagon so to speak, if i feel i've stuffed myself for one meal then i tend not to want much the rest of the day or dont want breakfast the next day so it balances out i think, just keep listenign to your body.

7lbs in 2 weeks cannot be sniffed at, I am delighted and feel if i can just kick the cravings then i might be able to go the distance on this one.

Joolsiam · 20/06/2009 11:33

Well I had a bit of a "sod it" moment yesterday and ate bread for the first time in weeks (funnily enough, I didn't really enjoy it).

I also bought myself a small amount of chocolate - once upon a time, a binge would have meant buying 3 or 4 bars and stuffing them down my neck really quickly, so I hope I am making progress

Scales were static this morning - I can cope with that as long as I get some sort of loss every week - after 4 weeks of losing nothing, I am desperate to see the lbs coming off, and get insanely jealous of anyone who manages to shift weight quickly

gingernutlover · 20/06/2009 11:49

that certainly sounds like progress

what i like about this is that when you have that week when you fancy chcolate and cream cakes, you have them, then probably dont fancy much dinner

nothing banned or to feel guilty about and if you accidently eat a bit too much you natuarlly make up for it without having to starve yourself for the next few days or go mad at the gym just to claim back calories

i see it as a one day at a time thing

ClaudiaSchiffer · 21/06/2009 10:38

Well done everyone on all your progress.

I finished the book yesterday, I have been doing really well, only eating when hungry and trying to eat more consciously.

Today I have lots of cravings - for chocolate really, so tried to resist and try his tapping technique. I didn't have any choc so I guess it worked.

I've resisted weighing myself, and my skirts feel marginally looser - although that could be my imagination. I do feel much better though, it does feel good not to stuff oneself.

Keep it up girls x

C1NDY · 22/06/2009 08:52

Claudia Well done on managing the cravings... I must use the tapping technique

Well over the weekend, I think I just ate and ate... well not in the quantity I would have. Had a BBQ on Sunday but noticed I was not hungry at all but ate a little to be social. I did well even though I was full most of the day. What worries me is that most of the time I am full, so have to wait to feel hungry... it does get a little annoying as I would like to eat regularly i.e. three meals a day but lately since doing PM ... I would be happy to just have Breakfast and Lunch. But this is good as I am not craving anything but just have the feeling of full-ness more.

Any how I was reading the PM book and found that I have a free subscription to his weightloss site which I can use for a month. Thinking of going there when I really need help. But overall I am doing well. Jumped on the scales this morning and I have lost another pound... which is good seeing as I ate like a pig last week

OP posts:
C1NDY · 22/06/2009 13:52

Well, I am listening to my body again and will only eat when I am hungry... Have only had breakfast and its nearly two here with no signs of hunger pangs!! At this rate I will not eat all day.

OP posts:
C1NDY · 24/06/2009 09:21

Where have you all gone?

OP posts:
Joolsiam · 24/06/2009 10:05

Just not a lot to say at the moment I thought the scales were moving last week, then they went up again so I've still only lost one measly 1.5 lbs in 6 weeks

Feeling a bit down about it all and wondering what, if anything, will ever work for me Having a bad back makes things worse because I can't exercise enough

I popped back onto the CD thread to see how they were doing and it made me cry with jealousy and frustration - no matter what I do, I just can't shift weight at any speed. Even my big losses on CD were in the 2 weeks between conceiving and getting a positive PG test - presumably my metabolism geared up immediately.

I suppose the one thing I've got out of this is that it is not worth starving myself on CD because nothing seems to make the weight come off quicker

gingernutlover · 24/06/2009 19:02

well i have to echoe joolsiam I havent lost this week either BUT I am definatly snacking less and eating less at meals so I guess that is a healthy move.

I think I someitmes eat before I have even thought about eating and so thats probably why I havent lost.

Plus I have been ill all week and felt like rubbish so havent moved much either - at other times this would have meant a gain so staying the same is an achievment

I dont see this as a quick fix, I see it as a way to make me healthier and happier for life

Joolsiam · 24/06/2009 20:05

I'd forgotten I hadn't listened to the CD and did that today - very strange reaction from me when he was talking through the visualisations of being happy / slim etc - I was seeing myself on holiday with a DD (I don't have any children) and burst into tears - really sobbing

I then really struggled with some of the other visualisations where you have to think of someone who loves you and see yourself through their eyes - I just couldn't do it - all I could see was a blank

I think I must have more major self esteem / self image issues than I thought

ClaudiaSchiffer · 25/06/2009 10:42

Hi all, I haven't weighed myself yet so have no idea if I've lost any weight or not BUT I can now fit into my THIN jeans!!! YAYYYY for me etc etc .

I am snacking far less and being much more conscious of my eating which I think helps. Today I had more sugar/chocolate cravings, I didn't do the tapping thing and just had 4 marshmallows. Not so bad really, in the past it would be a couple of choccy bars.

Joolsiam, what is the CD thread? I'm so sorry that it's such a struggle for you to lose weight, have you been to the docs about it? I'm not medical in the slightest but sometimes thyroid problems can manifest themselves as an inability to lose weight - could it be worth getting yourelf checked over? Jools, if your back makes if hard for you to excercise, can you swim? Would that be any good? And also very sad to hear that you found the visualisations so hard. Your poor darling. If it is a struggle for you to think through the eyes of someone who loves you can you try to picture yourself as if you were looking at a friend that you love? Do you see what I mean?

I haven't got the CD, I must have lost it sometime ago, I've had the book ages. I can feel my resolve weakening though so will have to read a few chapters today to make sure I keep going with it.

Good luck everyone x

ClaudiaSchiffer · 25/06/2009 10:46

I should say that my thin jeans are a bit of a squeeze but I'M IN THEM!

Joolsiam · 25/06/2009 10:51

Thanks for the comments Claudia

I borrowed the book from the library and put the CD on my ipod - if you know a way I could get it to you, then I'll try. If not, why not see if your local library has a copy ?

You are right - I should try swimming, but there is not a pool at my local gym (that I walk to), so it means getting the car out for a 20 min drive and, if I go out in the evenings, I won't be able to park when I get home. No excuse really - I must do it. Fingers crossed - I was doing my pilates back stretches last night (that I've been doing for a few weeks) and felt something "give". Since then, my back has been painful but feels better - looser as if things are back where they should be. Hopefully I've done some good and the healing process can start.

I've been to the GP - had thyroid tests done last month because it swelled up badly after my last MC - all normal apparently. The other potential cause of problems losing weight is PCOS, and I haven't got that either. I'm waiting on recurrent miscarriage tests, that may or may not shed some light on this - hormone imbalance is the most likely answer.

However, the scales moved again today back down to where they were a week ago, so I'm a bit happier - just hope they stay there now and don't jump back up again - that would at least mean a 3.5 lb loss in 7 weeks - crap for most, but OK for me !!

Well done on the skinny jeans I have a pair of size 14 jeans that I can do up but not wear as of 2 weeks ago(bought in the Monsoon sale last year and the tags are still on !) I will be trying them on again at the weekend to see if they are now wearable - probably a better indicator than the scales ....

C1NDY · 25/06/2009 13:27

Jools throw the scales away. Just measure yourself according to your clothes... I find the scales just annoy me and then lead to me eating... so am going to put mine away forever (well, until I am down to a size 14, then I will weigh myself and then put the scales away until I am in a size 12... so on and so on )

Excellent idea to chuck scales away Cindy. I find the whole 'weight' think totally ruins my mood.

On the plus side, my tummy is flatter that it has been in ages.

On the minus side I am still feeling wobbly about following the rules. Like right now (3.30pm here in Oz) I am not at all hungry but am VERY keen to eat a few biccies. Just boredom I suppose. Am having a cuppa and a mooch about the internet but will try to do something more distracting soon.

Jools thanks for the offer of sending me the CD, I did look in our library but I don't think Paul McKenna has reached outer Adelaide yet. I will check out his website and see if I can download it from there.

Jools have you ever tried Chinese Medicine re hormonal/pregnancy stuff? I had many years of unexplained infertility which was horribly distressing and found that Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and herbs) was fantastic, bloody expensive though .
