ok sorry if tmi etc but can really do with some advice here.

i started taking xenicol last tues (so a whole week now) i have been trying to follow my low fat diet and did not notice any of the side effects that i was told i would not notice while taking them.

going to the toilet just the same and everyhting is the same as before, untill tonight when i am not sure what happened (did not feel like i needed the toilet) but, well you can imagine.

i am totally luckily i managed to run upstairs and get cleaned up without dh noticing but what if it happens again in bed or something. plus i have work on thurs and i really dont want this happening while there.

what am i doing wrong?

oh I sharted myself a lot when I was on it!
Never again!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/05/2009 20:13

This was the reason when given the choice by the Doctor, I went for Reductil.

FigmentOfYourImagination · 19/05/2009 20:13

apparently anal leakage is a known side effect of these sorts of 'miracle' slimming drugs.

As far as I know you need to be uber strict with the diet to avoid the pooping

moondog · 19/05/2009 20:14

Sorry but lmao (as I am sure you nearly did)

shavenhaven · 19/05/2009 20:17

but is xenicol really a 'miracle drug' if it was going to make the weight fall of i might be tempted to stick with it but as far as i was aware most of the work still has to come from me.

what is reductil like?

Reductil is great, I take one tablet a day and is an appetite suppressant. You do get monitored more carefully, and have to have an OK blood pressure to be on it. My problem has always been the in between snacking and have found that it has stopped the cravings and now the habit is going. Also portion control which again is getting smaller. We have always had a pretty good diet, we have no bisuits/crisps/sweets in the house as I know I will just sit and eat them. I managed to lose 2kgs in the first 2 weeks which is just over 4lbs. I have told the doctor that I only want to be on them for so long and then try back again on healthy eating/exercise plan.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/05/2009 20:23

So basically it is retraining me.

shavenhaven · 19/05/2009 20:46

QOD, how strict were you with how much fat you ate?

OP posts:
QOD · 20/05/2009 18:49

Well, I started off with weightwatchers meals, you know the ready made ones?
shaaaaaaaart
So I tried salad (with small amount of dressing and tuna etc)
shaaaaaaaaaaaaaart
Then I moved onto roasted skinless chicken breast & mash (no butter etc)
shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart
so I stopped it
shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart
I think I sharted for a week after, but in fairness, I am one of those people who can do a "currypoo" an hour after eating one

newscot · 20/05/2009 19:39

Thank you!! Have just had my biggest laugh for a week. I have tears in my eyes from reading this thread. So, if you drink to much do you get shart faced?

shavenhaven · 21/05/2009 12:20

ok i have given up on them now.

a few unfortunate incidents again this morning (and bloody hell a xenicol shart does not smell good) and i cant cope with this anymore.

back to good old diet and excercise for me.

Joolsiam · 21/05/2009 12:26

I tried them once - never again

I was reduced to wearing night time pads all the time to catch any leakage and always wore dark skirts to work, just in case - just not worth it and I don't think it really helped with the weight loss.

It feels like just another gimmick to make people focus on eating a healthy diet - if you can do that without taking the pill and incurring the side effects, I'd do so !

shavenhaven · 21/05/2009 12:46

how long did you try them for joolsiam?

i really cant see me ever taking them again but i did wonder if maybe my body just needed time to adjust.

It was a while ago, so not entirely sure, but between 2 and 4 weeks I think - that was in the days when you could only get hold of them online and the strength of the stuff you can buy now may possibly be different
