Can someone please help me out and look at what I have eaten/plan to eat today?

Ok here goes:

Breakie: bowl of frosted shredded wheat

Lunch:Salad made with mixed leaves, 2 tomatoes, 1/4 advocado, 2 radishes, bit of yellow pepper, feta cheese, 2 small mushrooms - dressed ith 1 tbsp water, 1/2 tbsp olive oil and half of one of those salad dressing dried sachets...Not sure whether to have a pita bread with it as well...

Tea: plan to have ommelette (sp) with 2 eggs and some mushrooms

as a snack I have eaten a handful of jelly sweets. May also have an apple...

Please can you tell me if this is an ok diet to loose weight? Was shocked yesterday when I weighed myself and have put on even more- need to shift 10kg now

Thanks

Sounds fine, although I would ditch the frosted shredded wheat (assuming it's covered in sugar!) and any other sugary sweets, you won't need them if you have fruit. Why not try handfulls of mixed nuts with a couple of raisins/dried cranberries that type of thing. Save the sugar for a relax day (not much though).

How much shredded wheat, how much milk, how much feta? Portion size is really key. Not the best cereal for a diet either, you'll be craving sugar not long after.

Try a wholegrain cereal, they seem to fill you up more! Loads of fruit and veg help too. Keep the cheese low ( it's been my downfall in the past!) Good luck!

Yes, cheese is one of the worst. I've lost 20lbs in the last 11 weeks with WW and I was shocked at how much I needed to reduce my portion sizes.

You really do get a very small bit of cheese and a very small bowl of cereal. That's why it need to be good cereal.

ok...need a rethink then

I switched to some feta
that comes in a one size portion - maybe I will cut this down to just one day a week....

Avocado is high in fat. An average avocado has around 190cals and 20g of fat per fruit.

Can you maybe eat porridge for breakfast? It was essential for me to feel really full and porridge did the trick. Meant i wasn't hungry and looking for snacks in the morning.

As the others have said having cheese is a killer. The amount you would actually be "allowed" at a diet class isn't worth having tbh Why not have roasted veg with your salad? Or lean meat/chicken or prawns?

Ommelette and mushrooms doesn't sound very filling either. I lost 4st on a Scottish Slimmers diet and i ate way more than you seem to in day. A jacket potato with some protein and lots and lots of veg or salad would be better.

I also had to excersise a bit. Get out for walks as often as you can. HTH

aGalChangedHerNsame this is my new as less as possible food for the day normally I do pack in a bit more....

Ok I guess I will have to give up the feta and just have it once a week as a special treat....

I know that advocado is high in fat but I thought it was good fats? Guess I can cut down on this too......

I could try porridge again...or I have loads of Oatibix which the dcs don't want to eat...as least then I can control the portion size....

I have joined the gym...aiming for 3/4times a week and will try to do an excercise dvd on the other days...

guess I could have a small baked pot and some beans later.......Carbs are a killer for me though -I just have to look at pasta...

Thanks for all the advice

Ilovespinach the portion size for carbs is really small tho.
For example on my plan a jacket potato would be 200g which is much less than i used to eat, rice and pasta would be between 45g and 60g depending on what else is in the recipe.

My portion sizes were on a par with my DH's at one point so try measuring out how much pasta etc you can eat and pad it out with veg. I ate soooo much salad and veg but it worked.

ilovespinach · 10/05/2009 16:09

thanks a lot

you're right carbs in moderation

Have decided on an omelette for dinner: 2 eggs, small pot, couple of mushrooms, onion and a tiny smidge of cheese

If you eat 3 good meals every day then you won't be so tempted by sweets etc but make sure you snack on fruit and veggies every day. They are filling and will stop the hunger pangs that i suffer from.

Good luck xx

I am starving now actually

I am having a SS orange chicken recipe/small portion of rice and tons of oven roasted veg.

May stick the oven on right now before i get a biscuit lol.

Avocado is good fat but it's still very high in calories if you are on a diet, same with olive oil and oily fish. You need a bit but it can be hard to have a small portion of them. I used to have a whole avocado as a snack with dressing, some of the bigger ones are 400 cals.

Porridge is good for breakfast but try not to add lots of sugar. Protein fills you up too. Have some yoghurt or an egg if you get really hungry in the mornings.

Also try and have salad and veg with your dinner and make sure your carb portion is less, a small jacket or fist sized serving of brown rice etc.
