Body after baby? Why am I not losing weight? Bit weird or normal?

Had my DD 13 weeks ago, had been feeling a bit rubbish generally (put a thread on health forum and got lots of support). I would like to lose a stone and a half. Started exercise 6 weeks ago, gentle but not a bit more intense. Lost 6lbs withing first two weeks but now my weight has been stuck at the same weight for four weeks. Am wondering if my body is still in post baby mode, or have I been reading too much about celebrity weight loss after babies. I'm not medically overweight but I have a wardrobe of expensive gear (work and evening wear) I need to fit into soon. At first I thought I was not eating enough and not drinking enough water. Last couple of days have been making sure I am, but wondering if anyone else has had a bub and this has happened to them.

are you breastfeeding?

with dd1 I didn't weight myself, but only fitted back into pre-maternity jeans at 9 months after the birth. Don't be too hard on yourself expecting everything to spring back into place just 3 months postnatal.

I'm not sure I ever really lost the weight after dd2 After dd3 and ds I went to slimming world both times and got back to where I should be after approx 9-10 months of slimming.

Him bumpy, am not bfeeding I did for a week after DD born but was actually ill so had to stop (epidural went wrong so I was being sick all the time). I wondered if the fact things were a bit traumatic (induction followed by 18 hour labour then ventouse/forceps and emergency c section) had caused my body to hold on to the weight.
I am being hard on myself but am feeling a bit frustrated reading about all the celeb mums who've lost weight so quickly. It's not like I was huge during pg or before.

Hiya i had exactly the same happen to me stayed the same for months!!i read loads of celeb mags an thought id just go back to normal, but they have all trainers and a plastic surgon on speed dial. ihad my baby in june an now have lost 4 an half stone by eating healthy and by doing pump it up workout dvd its amazing really good weight started falling off when started this.

Hi Rachnja. I have been exercising but was told by pregnancy exercise specialists that you can't do too much because of the relaxin hormone plus CS needs to recover. That's why I find it strange all the celbs have personal trainers. x

it takes time dont stress out to much you will get there!! the weight watchers diet is good and drinking green tea ment to speed up your metabolism even simple exercises like taking the baby out in push chair time yourself and do longer each day xx

13 weeks?!

I did nothing about my baby weight and it suddenly dropped when ds was about 9 mths.

Give yourself time fgs.

And stop reading about slebs.

bumpybecky · 23/04/2009 20:18

so just 13 weeks after a traumatic labour and emergency section

you shouldn't be excersising and dieting, you should be sat with your feet up still!

give youself a break, throw the celeb mags away and have a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate

honestly there is no rush you'll lose the weight, but give your body a chance to recover

Bloomin heck, 13 weeks??!!! Give your body time to heal first. So many people are in such a hurry. You had a traumatic birth, and a section, there's probably still internal swelling and scaring that just needs time. Honestly don't read owt about celebs, they must have tummy tucks while having their c sections. If you look at celebs who haven't gone down this oute like Charlotte Church for example, you'll see that she didn't bounce back into shape within a moth!! It's totally not realistic even after 13 weeks.

Relax, enjoy your baby and eat healthily and in time you will feel ready to either lose the weight healthily or it will just drop off naturally. I didn't worry about my body at all untl ds was 18 months old, I was just too busy and knackered!!!

savageisfat · 24/04/2009 12:27

month not moth! so many typos sorry!

LoveActually · 24/04/2009 18:09

Thanks all. I'm going to keep exercising gently but not worry about dieting, not that I have yet anyway (TBH that's why I posted this). I won't look back when baby's older and wish I'd spent more time in the gym. I'm going to enjoy my baby and my me time. I spoke to some of the mum's at my NCT group today and like most of you guys they said the weight came off in good time. The more people I speak to or hear from the more I wonder if the celebrities who lose weight might be damaging their bodies. x

I lost loads in the first couple of weeks after ds2 but then completely stalled. The last stone was an absolute bugger to shift, and I still have 5 pounds left to go.

I agree with others that 9 months is more realistic, first time round I'd lost all of my weight by then and was actually lighter than before (those were the days..!)

Get your thyroid checked - it can dip quite badly after having a baby, and if you're feeling a bit rubbish generally as well I think it's well worth a trip to the docs for a chat and a quick blood test.
