Will yoga alone tone me up??

I want to schedule a couple of hours“ exercise back into my week. I used to love high impact, sweating, thumping dance music inspired classes that made you ache all over. Then I had a baby (2 yrs ago!). And I“m TIRED. I keep meaning to get back into the gym but it all seems so hectic and really the last thing I need after a long day of work/toddler.

And then I remembered this amazing yoga place nearby which does 1.5 hour long classes that left me feeling better both body and soul - that real yoga feeling and think that would be what I would rather.

But I want to tone up, will yoga alone do that? I don“t really need to lose weight but everything is just a bit - floopy - and could really down with a bit of firming up.

Anyone?

A couple of hours yoga a week? Nah. Sorry to burst your bubble

really? I thought so but you know, yoga devotees swear it works wonders. It would be 2 x 1.5 hr sessions so 3 hours.

Oh well. maybe body pump and step to firm up and then I“ll make the switch.

no bubble burst, just what I thought.. poo.

if it's a vigorous class at intermediate or higher level or something like ashtanga then 3 hours a week certainly will make a difference, even more so if it prompts you to start practising at home a couple of times a week. just before i got pg w/dd2 i was doing 3/4 sessions a week including one class and it made a huge difference to how i looked and felt.

It wont make the same difference as the high aerobic classes, but I started a 2hr yoga class a year after ds1 was born and when , like you, I couldnt face other excercise. It did make a difference ( tho' not huge) but , more importantly, made me feel much more energised and got me to the stage where I felt able to add a few differnet excersize sessions, I now go running /circuits 2 X a week and still keep the yoga up. it was a brilliant starting point for me to get back into excersize
