How can I lose weight off the tops of my arms?

I have recently put on a few pounds, mainly due to my age(42) and having had a mirena coil fitted recently
But it has gone on my thighs, bum and the tops of my arms

how can i get rid of it, bearing in mind that I don't go to a gym but walk everywhere and have an active job looking after pre-schoolers
I am a size 10 and find it weird that my clothes don't seem to fit anymore in the weirdest of places like the short sleeves

There's exercises you can do which will tone them up. eg sit on floor with knees up and arms behind you, and do sort of "reverse pressups" by bending and stretching your arms. Sorry that's not a great explanation, is it?

as muminscotland said

also bean tin or bottle or water holding it behind your head and raise and lower it

i need to do this more actually

purepurple · 15/03/2009 12:09

The excerises will just tone flab...tbh the best thing to do to lose weight of the top of your arms is to lose the extra few lbs...it will come off all over.
It's not really possible to spot reduce in this way...tone and sculpt underlying muscle but unless you lose the lbs you are stuck with it I'm afraid

that is what I thought but I have never put weight on before, except when pregnant and then only the baby!!

so I will probably have to start eating a bit more salad and guzzle drink less white wine

Losing weight in general coupled with exercises targeting your triceps. I sympathise.

purepurple · 15/03/2009 12:26

people say I don't look like I've put weight on, but I can feel it.
I am 5"2 and size 10 and weigh just under 8 1/2 stone but I don't want to slide down that slippery slope!!!!!!!!!!

The exercises that you want are called tricep dips, overhead triceps extensions and i'd put in some bicep curls and lat raises for good measure.

If you google them individually most should come up with a you tube video showing how to do them properley. We cover all of them in my body pump class and they have finally shifted my fat shoulders and bingo wings.

FatFree · 20/03/2009 16:52

Will that really get rid of bingo wings? I've lost 4st but i hate my arms and the weight didnt seem to go from my thighs either, and the skin hanging looks bloody awful!

I'll have a look at youtube cos its so gutting to lose weight, only to still look awful

nikkid21 · 21/03/2009 09:12

It's worked for me fatfree. If you can find a local body pump class I can't reccomend them enough. I started doing them in Septmeber afters losing just over 2 stone. It's got rid of the bingo wings and lifted my backside so that it actually looks spearate from my thighs . I'll actually be able to wear strapless and halterneck dresses this summer.

It's an hour of lifting weights(you choose how heavy) to music. Each track concentrates on a specific area so you do

warm up

squats track to lift your bum and tone thighs

chest track laying down and doing bench presses

back track for upper arms, back and shoulders

triceps track - this works the back of the arms bingo wing area

biceps track to work the front upper arms

lunges - for thighs and bums

shoulders - for the shoulders and upper arms and back

Abs track - generally quite evil

cool down

It will hurt like hell 2 days after the first class but your muscles do get used to doing it once a week and I don't have any stiffness at all now unless I do 3 classes in a week or up my weights.
