Xenicol, what are your experiences of it...

That's it really - I have lost 4 stones on my own since the end of summer 2008 and was at my GP yesterday about something totally unrelated and he asked me how much weight I was losing each week.

I told him that my weight loss had slowed right down and he asked me if I wanted to try Xenicol as I still have a great deal to lose.

Has anyone tried it? Was it effective? What were the side effects like? and most importantly of all, how much weight did you lose? [smile}

Well done!

Do you know why your weight loss has slowed down?

brazenhussy · 26/02/2009 18:54

thank -you, yes it's because i lost the weight through anxiety (had horrendous 6 months) and now I am on the mend and consequently eating again

If that is the fat busting pill the doc gave me i honestly would not take it again, i could not control bowel movements always rushing to the loo and leakages, i took it for around a month, other friends have taken it and its been fine others like me have had bad experiences.
I'm now eating healthly and losing weight.

When you say your weight has slowed down, how much are you losing on average each week? 4 stone since october is a lot! If you're still losing 1-2 lbs per week this seems reasonable.

I worked on a marketing plan for Xenical some years ago and as I remember the side effects could be unpleasant, ie: fatty stools (which are therefore very smelly), oily discharge and leakages. I think to control this, you have to control the amount of fat you are eating. Also, the weight losses seen in clinical trials weren't massive, although they did show a health benefit (ie: losing 10% of weight and keeping it off).

Thanks for your replies.

I have only been taking it for 2 days and no side effects so far, maybe it's too soon?

I am currently losing a 1 lb a week but not every week.

My diet is pretty good anyway but my portions are too big

I took it for a while before i had my twins and lost 2 stone. Then fell pg and had twins lol, went back on again and lost a couple of pounds but no more so went back to docs and was given reductil which works in a different way.
To be honest the xenicol only really works if you have a lot of fat in your diet as it works by stopping 30% of fat being absorbed by the body,so if you have a low fat diet alreay then it wont really do you any good which is what happened with me after the twins were born.
If you have a lot of fat in your diet and are on these pills you will soon know all about it! Very loose, very smelly stools, passing bright orange pure fat into the toilet and leakages you cant control which are not very nice !!
If you dont have a lot of fat in your diet the pills wont do much for you ??? So kinda strange in a way but worth a try and see how you get on.
P.S it took about 5-7 days for them to kick in for me

mimiandme hows the reds going?? r u on 10s or 15s? iam also on reductil have been for 7 weeks ive lost 14lb i think (havnt weighed for a month. ) i would def go the reds route rather than xeno but it depends on ur current diet good luck xx

piscesmoon · 04/05/2009 07:25

You seem to be doing really well-I wouldn't take it-these things always turn out to have side effects. Smaller portions are the way to go IMO.

mrsboogie · 07/05/2009 15:48

I am on it. Have been taking it for 4 weeks - have lost 16lbs, am rarely hungry, NEVER snack or cheat and have never had any side effects. I love it. It is bloody brilliant. I know it is not ideal to take these things but being very fat is also a risk to your health. It has totally changed the way I eat and think about food. If you have the side effects you are not eating a low fat diet.
