Will I lose weight if I do this or is it silly?

I have decided to have one or two bowls of soup at lunch, whatever I fancy for dinner, bits of fruit (no bananas) and NOTHING ELSE.

I don't eat breakfast anyway, I don't like it.

How much do you want to lose?

i have lost 3 stone by having soup and pitta for lunch

dinner protein and veg no potatoes

and no snacks in between unless it is fruit

mileniwmffalcon · 15/02/2009 16:19

it sounds rather restrictive (e.g. what if you fancy a piece of toast with your soup?) are you planning to keep it up for long?

cheekysealion · 15/02/2009 16:22

and i allow myself one day off the healthy eating a week

mileniwmffalcon · 15/02/2009 16:23

always a good plan (unless you have pizza for breakfast, cream buns for lunch and donner kebabs for tea )

Coldtits · 15/02/2009 16:24

I have about 2 stone to lose, I don't mind if it takes a while (so I can have what i want for dinner)

I just can't restrict my evening meal. It's a big problem for me. I never feel deprived in the day, but if I don't get what I want for dinner I feel deprived even if I'm not hungry. Being hungry in the day doesn't bother me.

If I want a slice of toast with my soup, I shall have one, but I don't tend to find I need it.

what kind of dinners do you like to have

mileniwmffalcon · 15/02/2009 16:29

if it suits your lifestyle then go for it. it's pretty much what i do actually - no breakfast, smallish lunch, largish tea. i know it's the opposite of what's generally recommended, but it's the way i work. i've also stopped drinking during the week and taking more exercise overall. (i'm doing wlr to keep an eye on the cals, but my eating pattern is what suits me best) it's working for me - 10lbs gone since jan

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 16:33

erm, actually, I think you would be wise to have breakfast...because if you have brakfast it kickstarts your metabolism...

especially protein for breakfast is meant to be excellent!

Coldtits · 15/02/2009 16:40

I can't fair lady, by the time I can stomach breakfast it's nearly time for lunch. I don't like breakfast foods, I can't be bothered to sit and eat ....

I like to eat (for dinner)

Pasta
chips
Meat
Fish#
Eggs
rissoto
Chicken
Mashed potato
new potato
gravyish food like stew (but not dumplings)
chinese food
And vegetables because I know I should.

coldtits...sometimes we can get used to eating breakfast by persisting to have breakfast...iykwim...I know that comes across as odd...
I am not a cereal person, etc...but seem to be able manage at least some fruit (just to lazy to do htings like egg and bacon, tbh)or some low fat yoghurt....

however, if you aren't used tp eating breakfast it really is a matter of training yourself...

cheekysealion · 15/02/2009 16:44

could you have yoghurt for breakfast?

i dont have breakfast until i get to work and tend to have a banana

Coldtits · 15/02/2009 16:45

I KNOW but I have only ever eaten breakfast when I'm pregnant, when hunger propels me out of bed with the force of a moving bus. If I'm not hungry why is it a good idea to eat? Surely that's what got me into this mess in the first place?

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 16:47

because your body needs regular food for the metabolism to work...don't ask me why and how....lol...not sure about teh sciency part...but Breakfast really is the best way to kickstart your metabolism...I can't be arsed right now, to google the science...sorry...maybe someone will come in on the thread and knows the reason behind it...

Coldtits · 15/02/2009 16:48

Would a couple of cups of tea with sugar do the same job?

OP posts:
cheekysealion · 15/02/2009 16:50

i dont know the science either but it is to BREAK the FAST that you body has been in over night..... and if the body is in fasting mode it clings onto whatever it can to survive which wont help with weight loss

FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 16:50

sugar will raise your bloodsugar to quickly...not a good idea...best somehting that raises it slower...fruit of course is high in sugar, but because it also has lots of fiber the way it works is different...

Coldtits · 15/02/2009 16:51

I might be able to shove a tangerine in. I s'pose.

Thanks guys!

I can't help thinking that we evolved to get up and start looking for breakfast. Which would have taken an hour or two?

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 15/02/2009 17:06

...it does look a bit like a faddy website...but I haven't properly looked around...

mileniwmffalcon · 15/02/2009 17:07

i really don't think it makes enough of a difference, if you don't feel like eating don't force yourself. it's never stopped me losing weight (gained during pregnancy when i did eat breakfast).

Flightattendant27 · 15/02/2009 17:10

Hmm. My mother once told me I would lose weight if I stopped having marga on my toast in the morning.

Like that really countered the 15 digestive biscuits I was having with my tea before breakfast

No wonder I went on to develop anorexia. It's all her fault.

Shoshe · 15/02/2009 17:16

I have lost half a stone in two weeks with WW, like you don't like breakfast so have a yogurt and a banana.

I have home made veg soup for lunch and basically what i want for dinner, (just less of the 'weighty' things, and more of the veg)

biggest thing that helps me lose weight is water, i drink 2/3 litres a day, If I don't I don't lose weight.

DH reckons its the running up and down to the loo

mileniwmffalcon · 15/02/2009 17:46

lol but yoghurt and a banana is breakfast Confused
