Fed up of having to try so hard

I lost 9lbs since new year, then I had a week where dh was working late every night and a week of snow so I have been not paying attention and I have put 7lbs back on, I havent been eating constantly or snacking, I seem to be only able to lose weight when i wite down everything I eat and pay attention to every little thing all the time.
I want to be able to lose weight without it being all I think about every waking hour.
I either weight myself 10 times a day (and I tend to lose a lot when I do this), or not at all (then i put it all back on)
It seems if I am not totally obbsessed then I pile the weight on.
Is there a way round this, I lost 4 stone over a year and a half but over the last year have put over 2 of it back on.
Fed up of feeling fat and old.

Hi SockMonster

I know how you feel. It's a tough time of year to lose weight - I am struggling too.

You've done it once - 4 stone is a fantastic amount to lose - so you know you CAN do it again.

But willpower is not enough (not for me anyway!!) you have to have a plan ...ie meal planning, ring-fenced time for exercising, some activities planned for your vulnerable moments (ie hobby instead of snacking in front of tv late at night)

Why not come and join us on this thread (details posted below) - everyone is really friendly and we post our weight every week if we want to and the support you get is incredible.

Owing to snow/flu etc I have put ON weight two weeks running but I am still trying. I am going to start again properly on Feb 25 (start of Lent) and then really try very hard until Easter. Until then I am trying to cut down on calories and up the activity levels. Come over and join us!!

Good luck!!

Just re-read my post and apologies if it sounds terribly chirpy!! I really get what you are saying about feeling fat and old - I really do - am feeling really down about it myself currently... but I guess the only way is to take small steps and try else it becomes a downward spiral...easier said than done I know. xxx

There is abslutaly no poiunt in weighing yourself all day - mornings only before you have eaten or drunken.

Well done for losing 9 pounds and as for the 7 pounds - aren't they fluid, bet if you weigh yourself tmmorow the scales will be working fine and you will be back where you were - or almost

thanks, you may be right actually I am on my period so that never helps.
I need to behave but it is so hard unless you are actually focused all the time, problem is when it is cold and I have walked all the way to school then to playgroup I really fancy the biscuits or 10.
I should have a plan or somerules I think.

Ok, biscuit = 100 calories , say (well two would be that much)

So buy a bag of apples and a bag of bananas.

take an apple and two banans with you where ever you go and have these instead. Get the packets/sachets of 40 calorei hot chocolate and have that with a banana - so that is 110 cals of lovely nessssss

thesockmonsteroflurve · 09/02/2009 18:37

the worse thing is I would enjoy that more than the biscuits anyway, which I only eat because thewy are there.
that is my plan for this week then.
