dinny, five inches off in a WEEK? Wow! That's quite an amazing result - do you know how much weight you've lost in that time?

horse, the success journal is a companion to the I Can Make You Thin book. I recommend it, even though it is six quid or so, purely because having a written record of how you've got in is good motivation. The same exercises are in the journal as the original book, and there is a lot of repitition, but there are also daily motivational thoughts and sayings. Have a look in a bookshop at it and see what you think. I wish that I was one of the people who it works for straight away, but I'm not. I guess it takes longer to reprogramme some people than others! I'd be interested to know whether people thought the days with PM are useful even though you are unlikely to get one-to-one time with him.

Horse · 10/04/2006 08:08

Good morning. How are you feeling today. I haven't had breakfast yet as I don't feel hungry just yet. I had quite a late supper and although I don't feel bloated from it I don't feel like I can face a bowl of muesli just yet so will sip on my drink. Glad you like my name dinny. Tai tai I will have a look for the success journal when I go to a book shop and flick through to see if it is right for me. As I am going to the training day next month I may just wait before buying. Is everybody managing to listen to the tape every day for the first two weeks? Do you listen to it afterwards on days that you are struggling or try and listen regularly? Tomorrow is my day for weighing myself so will try and be extra healthy today.

patkica · 10/04/2006 11:06

Hi everyone, it was great to get to hear about so many other people's experiences and I feel extra motivated now. I've always been biggsih (size 14), and I've always been really upset by this, but have never really done anything about it. But I gave up a 15 year smoking habit 6 months ago, and feel ready to make some more positive changes. I thought that actually going to the PM thing and paying for it would give me extra motivation. I'll let you all know how it goes after Thursday. Having this link will help a lot too. But I'm a bit confused about how he can say eat what you want on the one hand, and on the other advise readers on how to resist cravings? It seems to be working for me on the whole, but I am stil finding it hard to distinguish between real hunger and fake hunger. Do people who have been doing it for a while find that it becomes second nature after a while?

wangle99 · 10/04/2006 19:33

Argghgh I feel bad as I ate pizza for tea (homemade), I really really wanted it and I cannot get rid of the 'guilt'!

I think I will listen to the cd tonight (I haven't listened to it yet).

I think the guilt is going to be the hardest bit to overcome, now I'm convinced I am not going to lose any weight because I ate one pizza Sad

Horse · 10/04/2006 20:07

Hi patkica and wangle99. I don't think you should feel bad wangle99 over the pizza. The whole point of the weight programme is that you can eat without guilt. If you were hungry when you sat down to eat then it is fine. One of the rules is that you eat slowly and are conscious of what you eat and that you leave a mouthful on the plate. Also, if you lapse you shouldn't beat yourself up about it you should just try and start again the next time you are hungry. One meal isn't going to make a difference. Patkica, where will you see PM. I am going to his training day on 13 May in Hammersmith. I was told that he is not going to be doing many more of this type of training. He does have a tapping excercise in the book to help you resist cravings. Seabird mentioned below that apparently it is used in Kosovo to treat trauma as well as compulsive orders.

wangle99 · 10/04/2006 20:39

Thank you Horse (how has your day been by the way?).

I think I'm worried because I'm scared this won't work. It's unlike anything I have done before and because I'm not weighing myself I feel out of control!!

I will be happier when I know it is working.

I did eat the pizza slowly and consciously (and it was lovely!)

TaiTai · 10/04/2006 21:00

hi wangle, by the sound of it you followed all the rules, therefore no need for guilt! Have you read the book, it goes into some detail about the link btw emotions and food and how that can result in excess weight.

TaiTai · 10/04/2006 21:06

hi horse, I just looked into attending the Hammersmith day too but it's REALLY expensive! I knew it would be pricey, but was shocked by how much it was. I can't really afford it tbh.

Horse · 10/04/2006 21:59

Wangle99, the proof is in the pudding I suppose so tomorrow I will hopefully have good news regarding my weight. Tai tai, it is expensive. I have gone in with 3 others which allows one to go free so we have a discount. Still expensive though but I hope it is worth it. A friend of mine went to the training a while ago and lost a stone and a half and has managed to keep it off. Today has been a good day for me, I managed to get into my skinny jeans (bulge a bit). I didn't feel like any breakfast but had two hearty meals - salmon chowder and rolls for lunch and noodles with chicken and vegetables for dinner. I feel very satisfied. My daughter is learning to ride her bicycle without stablisers so I have excercised plenty today Smile

dinny · 10/04/2006 23:10

hello, all Smile Wangle, I had pizza for lunch today...only had about a third of a slice with salad (it is normally one food I would scoff too fast and feel really guilty about eating.) I lasped a bit and finished ds's ice cream...but maybe I didn't lapse as I did enjoy it!

not sure how much weight have lost - will weigh myself tomorrow morning. so, TaiTai, do you add all the inches together for a weekly total?

ps have a bit of a test tomorrow as sister coming down and we're going out for a few drinks. must not eat any crap when drinking - any hints?

TaiTai · 10/04/2006 23:19

hi dinny, no I don't add up all the inches. don't take weekly inch measurements. will measure my inch loss monthly i think; i doubt very much i would have your result after one week Smile having said that, had a good day today. bought a small choc easter egg (OK, small-to-medium) today because i fancied having some chocolate as a sort of foodie security blanket. i didn't eat it straight away, because it was the having not the eating that gave me security, just knowing it was there appeased my craving. i had a bit when i was hungry (being a good girl and following The Rules) and you know what? I didn't think it tasted great. So only had a bit, and the rest is downstairs where I'll leave it be. Actually, I'm surprised dh hasn't sniffed it out by know. Grin

Horse · 11/04/2006 07:52

Hope you are all well today. I have just weighed myself and am proud to announce that I have lost 6lbs in my first 2 weeks. I can now clearly see my target weight which I hope to reach by the end of May. I think that I will read the book again between now and Easter weekend to motivate me and keep me on track with all that chocolate around. How is everyone else doing?

TaiTai · 11/04/2006 09:48

Horse, outstanding!! I weigh myself next Thursday so here's hoping.

patkica · 11/04/2006 12:14

Hi everyone. Hope you're all having a good day. ds went a bit nuts when I dropped him at nursery, so the day began badly, but I did book our holiday so that was good. Excellent news Horse, well done you! It's good to see that it works. Wangle99, it's perfeclty ok to eat anything, as long as you eat slowly, really enjoy it and if you were hungry for it. I'm finding that working out whether I'm really hungry is the hardest bit. Wierdly, the answer always seems to be no, not really. I have a sister who has always been skinny and has always eaten what she likes. Envy I always wondered why, but now I can see that it really is down to portions. I am a healthy eater in the main and I don't even like sweet things much, but I tend to eat a lot and find it almost impossible to say no if it's in front of me. This really does feel different though as knowing that I can have what I want doesn't make it seem like a horrible diet. So far so good, I just don't seem to want to eat as much and I have managed to leave something on my plate after meals (something I never did before). Yes, I'm going to Hammersmith on THursday, a bit nervous. I haven't told anyone except this thread as I don't want to be embarressed is it turns out to be a waste of money. It is bloody expensive though, but I figure I'm spending what I've saved by not smoking. I still haven't got details of venue or time. Has anyone else?

TaiTai · 11/04/2006 13:20

Pat, good luck on Thursday. Let me know whether you think it is worth it. The difficult part for me is not knowing when I am hungry, but when I am full. I do think I get a physical sensation for physical hunger though and another one for emotional hunger. Anyone got any tips on how to know when you're full? Would be much appreciated!

monkey · 11/04/2006 14:16

HI; Can I join in here too? I bought the PM book a while ago & listen to the cd religiously - for about a week. I never have that long in the day to lie down & can't imagine listening to it in bed with dh. How do you all manage to listen to it? Do you reckon it'd also be ok to just listen while doing th eironing or something?
Anyway, I've dug my book back out and will give it another go. Had 1 st to loose, but developed a sudden sweet craving which has added another half a stone Shock. Wonder if it's doable for my 'holiday' in 2 weeks. hmm doubt it, but maybe the summer?

well done to all of you who are succeeding.

wangle99 · 11/04/2006 14:57

TaiTai - I was thinking possibly of attending a day, do you mind me asking how much it is? I did look on the website but couldn't find a price (which I thought probably wasn't a good sign to it being within my price range!) I find it easy to work out if I am hungry or if I am full. I find it difficult to work out if I am hungry enough if you know what I mean.

Horse - Well done, I'm so pleased your weight loss has been good. It has encouraged me to continue without jumping on the scales (which I very nearly did this morning!)

Dinny - Did you weigh?

Pat - Good luck on Thursday I am very excited to hear how you got on!

I went to a friend's for lunch today, we had a lovely sandwich and there was a big pot of crisps on the table but I didn't take any because I wasn't really hungry for them. Normally I would have had a packet myself and finished of DS!

TaiTai · 11/04/2006 19:48

Hi wangle, I think the cost was £293. You're right, the cost isn't advertised freely on the website; I had to register and get to the booking stage online before I found it out! It's just too much for me right now, although I might have considered it if, like Horse, I was getting a buy three, one goes free deal with some friends then sharing out the discount.

wangle99 · 11/04/2006 21:48

TaiTai - I was too scared to register in case I committed myself to something!!! £293 is rather alot especially as I would have to pay alot in travel and overnight accommodation as well. Would love to go though!

dinny · 11/04/2006 22:43

Hello, all, well, I weighed myself and I have lost 3lb! Really pleased.

Had good day today - even had half a Milky Bar and enjoyed it and left it at that AMAZING.

just did a great ashtanga class too, so feeling v lovely and stretched.

Horse, that's fantastic! I shouldn't be weighing myself yet really as only a week in but really hope to have lost the same by next Tuesday!

wangle99 · 12/04/2006 07:23

Dinny that is fabulous! I am trying to convert all my Weight Watcher friends at the moment. I am finding this so easy at the moment! I feel like I've come home lol!

Well done girls keep it up!

Horse · 12/04/2006 08:26

Good morning all. Welcome monkey and well done dinny. Last night I went out for a Chinese as it was a friend's birthday. I was amazingly restrained. Isn't it funny though how other people try to get you to eat more than you want to. The restaurant was an eat as much as you can for a set price so there was that "must get our monies worth" attitude. It was the first time I'd been out with friends who don't know that I am following this regime. I wondered whether they would notice me eating slowly but nobody commented. It's so nice to wake up after eating so late and not having that bloated feeling.

Monkey I think that this is very easy to follow where ever you especially once you get into the habit of following the four rules. The best of which is eat whatever you want when you are hungry. I took the children to the cinema yesterday and had an ice cream and a brownie from Starbucks. I didn't feel guilty at all.

wangle99 · 12/04/2006 10:02

Sorry Monkey didn't see you there - hello!

Good morning Horse, mmmm Starbucks icecream and brownie mmmm We don't have them down here unfortunately now that is something I seriously could just eat! lol

How much is everyone drinking? I am continually thirsty, I am literally drinking ALL the time. I have already drunk 3.5 pints of water this morning and I'm going to have to get another pint now as my lips are all dry and I NEEEEEED a drink!

patkica · 12/04/2006 10:16

Hello everyone and welcome monkey. I forgot to say the other day - thanks to everyone for letting me on this thread! Excelletn news Dinny. Yes, it does cost about £300, but I dodn't know about the discount for more than three. I'm going on my own so am a bit scared but quite excited too. Wangle, I have the same problem: I don't feel really full, but not not hungry if you know what I mean. I decided that this meant that I wasn't really hunegy yesterday, but then realised that I hadn't eaten anything by 3. Still then only had three quarters of a sarnie and that was fine. Finding this really quite easy, though I do think about it a lot. I'm hoping to get to the point where it all feels normal. I am drinking loads of water too: weird as I don't normally. I still don't quite believe that this can really work, but we'll see. SO far, so good. I wouldn't listed to the CD while ironing as you're not meant to while driving and it could be dnagerous. But why not when washing up etc... especially if you have ear phones. I listen in bed as I go up before DH.

patkica · 12/04/2006 10:17

Just looked over my last. Sorry about the spelling.
