If you join a health club/gym, freed up your time to go 3 times a week, and changed your diet to a nicely healthy one how long would it take to lose 4 stone?

Is it still that a healthy weight loss is a pound-ish a week? so it would take about a year?

Any thoughts?

hiya

if you need to lose quite a bit, eg more than a stone then more will come off to begin with

I know when i have lost wieght in the past with things like ww, so basically a healthy diet, I can generally lose half a stone a month, varying from month to month, so I owuld say your 4 stone is easily achieveable in a year

when i did cambridge diet i lost 3 stone in 9 weeks - not necessarily recommending it and I have put on a stone through not being sensible.

Hi Laurie.

If you joined a gym/health club what would you be doing?

If it's classes then I don't think you have to join the gym, though it might be different where you are.

I exercise 3 times a week. I do a spinning class on a Tuesday night & a Thursday night & aquaerobics (SP) on a Monday night.

I found that I begun initially to help speed up me weight loss, but now I find myself really looking forward to going. All the classes last an hour each & I can honestly say that I feel far more energetic, I love going to class.

I also have to say that I have huge support from my sister (she's 10 years older than me, a size 8 and an aerobics instructor, she also teaches the spin classes I go to!) I know I couldn't do it alone.

I lost 6lb in three weeks & that's the only exercise I was doing. Just cut back on the fatty foods & you should see a remarkable difference.

I think it's your own willpower that determines how fast/slow you lose weight, I was reading a SW magazine last week & a girl lost 3 stone in a matter of months!!

Thanks you two. I ideally want to lose 5 stone but I'm being sensible when I say 4 as I'm taking into account that it's been 8 years since I was that weight.

I get free classes when I join this health club but what I was planning to do first was start off with 30 lengths in the pool followed by 45 minutes of weight training.

I really love food (wine, chocolate, cheese and coffee) so a lower carb diet is the only one that works for me. I bloat terribly on pasta and bread and feel very gassy - though I love bread very much.

I also don't want to 'diet' - my problem is that I eat lots of lovely healthy food and then snack on the extra naughties - all I really have to do is go without the extras.

I must start a food and exercise diary online as keeping me aware of it might help me make better food choices.

I'm definitely an emotional eater too - I have pmt at the moment and my 10 year old has just spent the last 2 hours whining constantly over a science project and being very tantrummy - I have eaten 10 Jaffa Cakes in that time . I notice when I have pmt (for about 6 days) I make very poor food choices.
