Apparently stops fat absorption and will be available over the counter.Causes the shits and farts.

I'm not sure it's for me as it's sugar that is my downfall not fat.

yes. It's basically half strength xenical.

So take 2

Dior · 01/02/2009 17:59

Don't bother! I took Xenical for a month and only lost 1lb - I replaced fat for sugar!

snuffyp · 01/02/2009 18:22

I read about it and they advised you wear dark trousers and have a spare set of clothes!lol great

schneebly · 26/04/2009 14:14

My SIL has just bought some of this. Have told her to keep me updated on what it is like. I am fat enough to be able to get the strong stuff on prescription though.

pagwatch · 26/04/2009 14:16

I wouldn't take it. I view bowel control as a necessity for basic happiness.

shivermetimbers · 26/04/2009 14:21

I take xenical and you really do have to stick to a low fat diet, but if you do that you dont have any problems.

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/04/2009 14:23

I wouldn't take it. If I don't want my body to absorb fat then I need to takle it at the 'in' end and not have it running out the 'out' end in an uncontrolled fashion

Might as well just stick your fingers down your throat after scoffing those chips if you want a messy and revolting way of stopping your body absorbing the calories.

TigersChick · 26/04/2009 14:24

They were discussing this on 5live Breakfast on Tuesday - it was just after 8.00 I think.

They had one woman who said about all the side effects
They also had a woman on who said that she was taking it and found that it was really helping her with her weightloss.

I think it's horses for courses but I don't think I'd take it, personally.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/04/2009 17:16

I'd be more interested in taking the other one that controls your appetite, also now avaliable over the counter - appesat or something. Don't think I actually would though but am dieting and am fed up with being so hungry.

scienceteacher · 26/04/2009 17:17

No, I wouldn't.

It seems like it is designed to teach you not to eat fatty foods, and I think my brain can tell me that.

Whilst taking it (so I have read) you are advised to eat foods with a low fat content.... OK... but, surely, if eating only foods with a low fat content you're bound to lose weight anyway? Without taking a pill that causes you to leak feaces when out and about?

I think it's gross and anyone who is willing to resort to this really must be desperate. I mean, I am no 'thinnie' I follow the slimming world plan & fail to see how taking a pill that means you have to carry a spare set of clothes around with you, can possibly be doing you any good.

I feel desperately sorry for anyone who thinks a pill is their last resort, surely a doctor should be trying to find the root of the problem rather than dishing out pills?

Anyway, has this been tested and results displayed that the weight stays off after normal eating resumes? Or are you supposed to carry a spare set of clothes and watch your wind for the rest of your life?

QOD · 26/04/2009 21:24

I was prescribed it, I ate pre prepared low fat weight watchers meals, and pooed constantly, farted oil and had terrible griping pains!
Awful thing, even if ate salad I was on the loo!

ConnieComplaint · 26/04/2009 22:10

But did you lose weight?................or just friends

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 26/04/2009 22:19

I guess it may work for people who don't have the will power to resist low fat food. You're not going to be as tempted by the biscuit if you know its going to make you shit yourself.

QOD · 26/04/2009 22:42

LMAO - I think I lost more underwear than friends!
Think was, I tried so hard to eat exactly what I should but then still shit myself!
Honest, I could eat 2 tomatoes, a bit of cucumber and 2 lettuce leafs and PAAAAAAAaaaarple fluffle dribble squit.....

lasted a week!

Flibbertyjibbet · 26/04/2009 23:09

I know its no laughing matter but I just pmsl at those last two posts.

Do they advise just dark trousers, change of clothes to carry about or (what seems more sensible from QOD's info) Dark trousers, change of clothes and an industrial size can of air freshener?

sophieandbelly · 30/04/2009 20:15
