An idiot's guide to juicing - please please please help

Can someone please please help as I am desperate to lose some weight quickly. I have heard juicing is good but no idea where or how or what I need to get started. I have a huge wedding coming up and feeling utterly miserable at the thought so I am begging for some helo - thank you.

My mum just got a lovely juicer and it came with lots of ideas for smoothies, juices etc it was from one of the shopping channels online...something like price drop? I'll ask her tomorrow!
Know the feeling we have to be at a wedding in May...can't get my head around losing any weight

I am starting the Jason Vale juice diet tomorrow as it is supposed to be fab.

Blurb on book (got on ebay) says that Jordan (I know) lost loads of weight on it!

Please remember scifinerd, the quicker you lose weight the quicker you are likely to put it back on again. Quick fixes are just that.

However, Check out Jason Vale for juicing ideas tho....

I know MarkPT, you are absolutely right. I just want to lose a bit for this wedding and then I am going to follow Paul McKenna which seems a nice healthy and probably slow approach. I am aware I may not keep this off, just desperate not to look like too much of a balloon in all the family pictures.

Cioccolata, does the Jason Vale diet require lots of reading and prep?

If you cut wheat and dairy (cows milk and cheese, swap to goats or soya milk) out for 4 weeks, I can tell you, you will get some great results!

you should have a look at my other thread tonight in 'Food'. Someone has put a link to a massive thread all about it.

There is a book to read but it is really easy reading that sells you the idea and gets you into the right frame of mind to start the diet. Although I have had the book for about 4 months it is now time to start as I have put on a stone in 2 months.

I have to lose about 3 stone!!!

The idea is basically that your body is not wasting needing extra calories to digest the food you are putting in plus everyone says you feel great on it and not hungry at all.

huh?! Your body does need calories to digest food!

Example - When you digest protein, a 1/3 of the total calories are burnt during the metabolic process to break it down.

I'd say that statement is yet another myth there....!

I wouldn't, because you probably won't be getting enough calories in. Possibly add them instead of snacks? You will then be getting natural vitamins/minerals in etc.

Hi Mark, when you say add them do you mean with vitamin pills. My baby is now 9 months so getting many calories from food but I am breastfeeding too and I obviously do not want to do something that will affect him adversely.

Sorry, I meant the vitamins from the juices. Because you are using fruit and vegetables for the juice you get the vitamins and minerals from them, whereas generally you probably wouldn';t eat that much fruit n veg.

Personally wouldn't substitute too many meals for juices while BF, as a juice will only be a couple of hundred kcals if that...

A juicer is better, as it leaves just the juice and none of the pulp. This basically means that the vits and minerals from the juice will be absorbed quicker.

If you use a blender you will get a smoothie consistency which isn't bad, but means you will get more fibre, and you may find youself getting blocked up a little more!

Check Amazon or robert dyas for a blender. Don't spend more than £50 I say!

I have a juicer (got mine from Tesco's, their own brand, reduced from £39.99 to £20, don't get the value one as it is just for citrus).
In 7 days I lost about 9lbs, and looked a lot less bloated. You can still get great results if you juiced for 2 out of 3 meals and had a light meal for the 3rd. I didn't keep off all of the 9lbs (Christmas) but am now juicing/watching my food intake and exercising so weight is steadily coming off again.

Hi I am looking at the juicers on amazon and there is a bewildering array. I really don't want to spend a huge amount but I do need one that is not too time consuming as I barely have a minute spare in the day as it is. Any recommendations? Is the tesco one quick and easy? What about some of the cheaper Philips models etc?

I am on day 2 of the 7 day plan and so far so good. Apart from a cracking head ache this afternoon as I left my 2pm juice until 3.30 which I won't do again. I think this is also part of the detox process though!

Feel less bloated and smaller round the tummy area.

I am using a magimix juicer and would suggest a fairly sturdy one to cope with pineapple and apple cores. I also put it all in a blender afterwards to crush the ice and spinach into the juice.

I remember reading once in a Jason vale book that the best 'base' for all juices is 'crapple'- carrot and Apple and then add whatever else you want to....
