Hello Disenchanted

Do you know how heavy you were pregnant?

I breast fed and thought I would lose weight but I did not. I started exercising when DD was about 3 months old but did not lose any weight (but felt more toned)

Suddenly when DD was about 9 or 10 months I started to lose weight. This was without changing anything to my exercise (which I had maintained since month 3) or my diet, it was very strange.

I put 3 stone on pregnant and am now only 4lbs over my pre pregnancy weight. DD is nearly 1 but it has gone quickly time wise.

Don't be so hard on your self Disenchanted. Give it a little time. Congratulations on the birth of your new baby - enjoy!

disenchanted, i really feel for you.i put on 3st in my pregnancy and it took more than a year to lose.
immediately after the birth i was 10.5st - just under 2st more than my pre pregnancy weight. i tried really hard and got down to 9st10lb after about three months, and then...the weight loss just stopped. i just could not seem to shift it, even if i exercised hard and ate little. it was just the weirdest thing. Pre pregnancy i had always been able to lose weight quickly and easily.my husband had this theory that nature just wouldn't let me lose more as mothers of young children need fat reserves!
I got really fed up and dispirited, and gave up for a bit. then i had another push and got down to 9st5lb, but plateau-d again and just could not get below 9lb. It took a miscarriage - and a huge fitness drive - to lose the final half stone.
all in all, more than a year...
What i really want to say is don't be surprised if it takes a long time. In retrospect i should have been much cooler about it -having a baby is hard enough without forcing yourself into some sort of punishing health kick. take it slowly, and accept that for months, or even a year or more, you're a mummy shape.

and just to add, new mums need cookies, and need a glass of wine in the evening. give yourself a break.

It really is incredibly early days.

A year may sound a long time now but I am quite happy for my weight loss to have taken this long. I was in maternity clothes for a few months!
