What's the new Discover plan? Is it like Points, or Core, or something different altogether?

apparently we will get a plan send to our SW group, to compare...
SW now has introduced a plan much like core plan, but free foods are still free all the time...best of both worlds I hope

norksinmywaistband · 05/01/2009 15:29

ok went this morning, Discovery is basically core and points mixed together.
You now count points as you used to but are encouraged to have filling foods, highlighted in green.( these are basically the old core plan foods)
Now lets just see if it works

FairLadyRantALot · 05/01/2009 17:18

hat sounds confusing....I mean, core/no count you had to count some foods anyway, didn't you...so, are the free foods always free then?
If so, basically SW and WW is now the same, lol

norksinmywaistband · 05/01/2009 19:19

not all the "green" foods are free ie pasta, rice, potatoes, meat and fish have a points value, but the idea is that they are relatively low points value, and are more satisfying to hunger

FairLadyRantALot · 05/01/2009 19:39

norks...do WW now do green and red foods aswell?

cerys · 05/01/2009 19:46

It's just meant to discourage you from spending your 22 Points or whatever on Mars Bars and crisps - this was a criticism of the old Points plan.
My friend is sticking to Core, as that works for her. But new members will only hear about the new plan, with its emphasis on filling foods.

FairLadyRantALot · 05/01/2009 19:56

cerys, when I did WW I did the core plan, and liked it very much but,my only criticsm would have been that free foods were only free at mealtimes....which meant I would eat that yoghurt, after my meal, because I would have begrudged spending points on it....I had tried the points, but that didn't work at all for me, because to be honest....I would end up eating crap and going without good food....it just so didn't work for me...

now with the new SW plan, it's like core, but free foods are free whenever...there are now less HE's...but you still got up to 15 syns a day...so..it's kinda the best of both worlds....i.e. you can have proper spag bol now...rather than Quorn spag bol, lol....
psychologically the new WW plan would probably not work for me, lol....

Tinkjon · 05/01/2009 22:28

Hmmm, think I will stick with points, then. I can do dieting or I can do healthy - but I can't do dieting and healthy at the same time Spending valuable points on a milk allowance?! Pah, spend your points on wine, that's the way to go!

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 09:41

tinkjon....go with SW and you can have it all...my syns hadly ever go on ordinary food things....as there is just no need, there is such a variety of free foods....so, syns are saved up for weekends and vino

Tinkjon · 06/01/2009 13:15

But SW syns are so 'expensive'! Sharing half a bottle of wine is pretty much a no-no from what I recall?

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 14:29

well...you can count your syns weekley and that gives you lots of room to play with....because, I rarely would spend 10-15 syns a day, so, I can have a whole bottle of wine or more a week..a bottle got about 26syns a week....so, if you would go for 15syns a day...gives you 105 syns a week...well...you do the maths

Tinkjon · 06/01/2009 14:55

So you get 10-15 per day and half a bottle has 13, is that right?

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 15:49

yes....but, like I said, if you were going to have a bottle at the weekend...or 2 over the weekend, you could just save your syns for teh weekend...you would still have enough syns for things like gravy, etc...

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 15:51

honest, the new SW plan seems to be to god to be true....
have actually been off the wagon for the last few weeks (still going to meetings, just was on damagelimitation mode, rather following it....) , but tomorrow is my weigh in and I will treat it as my fabulous first week after

Tinkjon · 06/01/2009 21:34

"a bottle at the weekend" - erm... howabout a bottle every night?

good luck tomorrow!

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 22:59

lol...come on that isn't even possible on ww points...even if not eating anything, lol

Tinkjon · 07/01/2009 11:00

Sharing a bottle a night is definitely do-able on WW, I could do it easily!!! (I didn't mean a bottle a night to yourself, I meant sharing one with dp).

Half a bottle about 4 points, that leaves loads of points left for food on even an 18 point diet!

I'm not saying it's healthy, just that it's possible

OP posts:
FairLadyRantALot · 07/01/2009 13:52

Tinkjon...well, half a bottle has about 13 syns on SW...so, you are allowed up to 15 syns per day...so, it would work and you can still eat food
(you see, I tend to drink a bottle all by myself ....alci...me...never....
