If you have any questions about following a GI diet, there's bound to be a Mumsnetter who knows the answer .

I'll be posting my progress on the thread weekly - if anyone else wants to - great!

Cha - Easy GI Diet by Helen Foster, has a vegetarian weight loss plan. It's a fantastic book, with recipies you can keep going back to.

Maintained my weight over the Easter hols which was a great achievement considering all the chocolate in the house. Back to business now with a vengeance!

Has anyone else noticed that they're loosing weight in a strange order. Before DS I'd always loose my tummy first...then thighs and never on my arms....on this diet my thighs seem to be loosing weight and my arms but my tummy is still flabby as ever. Surely last on should be first off but seems not.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/04/2005 14:23

huzzah indeed. have just made wholewheat pizza dough for pizza tonight...am v proud of self!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 14/04/2005 17:36

robin3 - YES!

My trousers are very baggy around my bum and thighs but not so around my tummy .

Thank goodness...was beginning to doubt it was working because I refuse to weigh myself.

Might have to do sit-ups in my last remaining free hour of the day...i.e. in front of TV at 2030. Maybe DS would find it amusing to watch if I did it during the day but he's in to wrestling me at the mo and I don't fancy having my hair pulled and being bitten whilst crunching my abs.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 15/04/2005 15:14

I used to be an hourglass shape. Now, I have no waist. My shape is reminiscent of a Fimble. Still, having lost 4 stone, maybe I qualify as Baby Pom now instead of Fimbo !

How long has it taken to loose that much...that's really incredible.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 15/04/2005 16:36

7 and a half months. I'm a pound off 4 and a half stone.

Hi everyone! Glad to see you are all doing so well. I've been cheating left right and centre, especially with Easter chocolates and of course my wine. I got on the scales last week and said a naughty word and decided I would have to seriously cut down my wine. So I stuck rigidly to the diet and did not drink wine Monday Tuesday and Wednesday and lots of pounds seemed to just fall off me! Went out and had a big curry last night and lots of wine but still when I stepped on the scales this morning I was at my lowest weight for over two years

I am a very happy bunny - and I love the GI diet!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 15/04/2005 18:46

Brilliant Anorak - well done!

So far, I'm enjoying the food a lot. I like the snacks you are allowed, e.g. scones and muffins in the Rick Stein book. I'm not a big chocoholic but I do like something sweet and they stave off any cravings.

Robin3, I do quite a few exercise videos and a lot of them have short abs workouts at the end e.g. 10mins. You only have to do say 10mins 3 times a week to start to see some effects. I would recommend getting a video because it's a bit less boring and also works all parts of the stomach.

Having said that although I have quite well-developed stomach muscles you can't see much of them under the flab, but I'm looking forward to meeting them some day!!

Riebee · 15/04/2005 21:03

Hi all
Haven't posted for ages
Seems like it's all going well.
I have been trying to give myself a mental slap round the face since easter, after a bit of a blip in the old diet.
I managed to get my size 12 trousers fastened today...wouldn't exactly go out in public in them yet but they did fasten which is a definate improvement.
I've noticed that the weight seems to have dropped off my backside?I think anymore and I may have to buy some of those bum enhancing pants. can't say the same for my tummy though still rather flabby. Hey do you think we will start recognising GI slimmers in the street....stick arms and legs, no bum but with slightly rounded tums

PuffTheMagicDragon · 15/04/2005 21:51

Lost 2lbs this week .

On my way to 5 stones now.

piffle · 19/04/2005 11:29

I too did a serious no alcohol for at least 4 days a week and the lbs have sloped off with minimum effort
I am enjoying the food so much, am having the odd treat, but in moderation and it seems to have totally limited the binges I used to have
Am at lowest weight in 4 yrs, still ideally would like to lose another 1/4 to 1/2 a stone but only for vanity reasons

piffle · 19/04/2005 11:31

Puff you have done really well

suzywong · 19/04/2005 11:31

so many encouraging reports, can't wait to get started in earnest

Have made a vat of minestrone, that stuff fills you up and no mistake

It's very encouraging to see how much weight everyone is losing. Puff, I'm really impressed. How much are you trying to lose altogether? I'm still on the straight and narrow and lost 61bs in the first week but that was post holiday, 1st week which is always good.

robin3 · 19/04/2005 12:49

I swear this is the wierdest diet!

I am hungry (because I struggle to find time to snack at work) BUT for some reason I don't crave sweet things and I haven't become obsessed with food (which is normal on diets). It's truly like being brainwashed! I think it's the fact that you can accept a biscuit or piece of cake if offered and not feel like you've ruined the GI effect.

No chance of me loosing my bum quite yet Riebee but hoping to loose my arms cos I'm tired on wearing longsleeve tops and dresses all the time.

Going to do the ab crunches but presumably once my bum/arms have gone the little fat busters will have to turn their attention to the spare tyre?

Suggestion re. recipe....I stirfried some cooked chicken and little chorizo, leeks, courgettes, peas, spring onion, carrots, ginger and garlic in soy sauce. Made up some bulgar wheat with boiling water and stock powder, drained and then added in the stirfry mixture. Tasted good and you can put in any meat any veg and any spices you fancy. Was thinking of smoked haddock, little egg, veg with the buckwheat to make kedgeree.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 19/04/2005 12:56

Saker, I put on 7 stones in 4 years . So, that's what I'm trying to get rid of. I'd like to lose another 3 and get to my "ideal" weight and a comfortable size 12.

It is a bit frightening when I think of the amount in total , but I've been looking at it in half stone blocks.

I do need to do some targeted work on parts of my body now - tummy in particular. It will never be as it was, but some magic knickers will help for sure!
