Hi all, looking for a bit of support from those who are trying to get that bit fitter.

Just a bit of a background. 35 years old..and weight has crept up in recent years due to the ups and downs of life. Ive had a difficult few years. I had two early miscarriages in 2022 and sadly after that, I lost my twin boys at birth in Nov 23, just over 2.8 years ago. Had an emergency csection but sadly they passed away one in the theatre and my other boy in the NICU within a week. I had a baby girl 18 months later and then my son a year after that. So I have a 15th month old and a 3 month old currently. Not an excuse of course but its been tough to focus on myself with all the grief and pregnancies and my living children but now I am trying.

This will have been my 3rd csection in 2.5 years but I returned to the gym 6 weeks ago. Since having my son 3 months ago I've lost 32lbs - combined baby weight and weight that was there before. I'm the lightest I've been in years. Still have a long way to go.

My issue is I had a planned night out on friday and friday turned into Saturday, Sunday. Bad food and drink choices ect....weigh in today and I'm 5lbs up. I'm so mad at myself. I'm going to the gym this evening but I feel very disgusted and weak right now. All the work last month for nothing.

Appreciate any advice to shed the pounds again and not give up. Feeling a bit low today

But yoy haven't ruined anything. You've had a bump in the road. Shame yourself down and pick up where you left off.
Life is going to be full of events so enjoy them, plan round them and continue with your fitness journey.

TwilightSkies · 13/07/2026 17:14

Your mindset will lead to failure. Not one bad weekend.
You haven’t ruined anything. It should be a slow and steady process.
It’s ok to have nice food!

Wonderingmyhead · 13/07/2026 17:14

Sorry for your losses 💔
It's probably just water retention from salty etc food that's showing on the scales. Don't be too restrictive and try to live by 80/20 principle, it's ok to have days like that as long as you get back on track ❤️ You've done brilliantly so far so keep going, get back on track. Consistency over perfection - always 💪 Show the best example to your babies.

Bloody hell gove yourself a break. You have done incredibly well. Don’t let one bad weekend derail it. I was barely able to function when I had a 3 month old, and I hadn’t been through half of what you had. You sound like superwoman to me!

rainbowunicorn · 13/07/2026 18:08

It's water retention, and natural fluctuation, nothing else. To put on 5lb of fat you would have needed to consume an additional 17500 calories on top of whatever your maintenance calories are. Thats just not possible in 3 days, no matter how much you ate amd drank.
Give it a week or so eating well and back to your normal routine and you will be back to where you were.

Instructions · 13/07/2026 18:10

I can gain 5lb in the week before my period. By cd5 it's always gone again. You haven't ruined anything. This is marathon, not a sprint.

LuckyMoonstone · 13/07/2026 18:18

You haven’t put on 5lb of fat in a weekend, it’ll be water retention and bloating. Be good this week, flush it all out your system, you’ll be back on track in no time.
I am on a weight loss journey now and I absolutely weigh more on a Monday morning compared to Friday/Saturday morning, because I like to relax my routine at the weekend. By the time the next weekend rolls around Im at least back to normal, or I’ve lost a bit more on top.

DeterminedRat · 13/07/2026 18:22

I went to a concert last week got pissed and weighed myself the next day and was 4lbs up. 3 days later it had all gone and I was back to my normal weight. Give it a few more days and it'll be gone again. Be kind to yourself, you need to have fun too, there is nothing disgusting about that.

CheeseyOnionPie · 13/07/2026 18:27

I’m so sorry for your losses - you’ve been through a lot.
Don't beat yourself up about the weekend, weight loss is a game of consistency over a very very long period of time and one weekend can’t be looked at in isolation. Don’t give your slip up any more energy. Just draw a line under it and keep going.

TeaIsLovely · 13/07/2026 18:27

You don’t just put on 5lbs after having a bit of an indulgent weekend - it’s probably carb overload and water retention. Give yourself a bit of break and you’ll be just fine.

Clearingaspace · 13/07/2026 19:07

Sometimes you can find your weightloss gets a boost after having a higher calorie few days. Get back to what was working, you are doing amazingly especially with your youngest only 3 months. Even if you just maintained the 30lb loss for a year or so you would still be in a better position than I was after children!

3luckystars · 13/07/2026 19:09

Imagine you hadn’t lost the 32lbs, you would be 37lbs heavier now!

bad weekends happen just kick the dust of your feet and keep going x

well done

Thanks all, I think this weight loss journey has become such a focus for me after everything, that I felt a bit shook after the weekend. I appreciate the kind words. I really lost myself after my boys died and when my two children came after, life was hectic. I'm back on the journey now and I really appreciate all the comments here

I'm so incredibly sorry about the loss of your babies. Life can be devastatingly cruel.

Just to add to the reassurance of the PPs, weight gain after an indulgent day or two is completely normal, and temporary. Are you following a low carb diet? Because this will really exaggerate it. Carbs cause the body to store water because every gram of carbohydrate stored as glycogen in your muscle and liver binds with about 3 to 4 grams of water.

I eat low carb so my glycogen stores are usually low, but I deliberately have one or sometimes two days a week when I relax the rules and eat whatever I fancy, and I can gain almost a stone! But it's gone again within a day of more careful eating.

Good luck and be kind to yourself - being able to relax and really enjoy food from time to time without feeling shame or regret is vital for sticking to healthier eating in the longer term imo.

LuckyMoonstone · 14/07/2026 09:58

@Ella31you’ve been through a lot, look after yourself x

morbidcuriosity · 14/07/2026 14:43

Don't worry. I went to a festival thing weekend before last, Friday Saturday and Sunday. Loads of alcohol and bad food. No fruit etc.. put on 9lb. . All gone now though, 5 went within 2 days. .
Just get back on it, up your water intake and you will be fine.
