15,000 steps doable?

I usually don't even hit 10k but I've decided today to do 15k every day until my holiday.

By 6.30pm I'd only done 5560 - set off for a wander and was actually quite surprised by how bloody long it took!

Finished the walk on 17,800 as i ventured a bit too far along the coast!

I've now got to try to fit them in around a full time job and a strong relationship with my comfy settee!

Anyone else trying to move more? Will it make much of a difference? I can't afford to go back in the jabs so this is my summer wardrobe hope!

I did it! 16182

Hoofed it half way home from work before dh picked me up on the way back!

It's quite hard fitting it in around work. No dog sadly - would be a great reason to get out

Dogs are a good reason to get out the house. As are grumpy teens tbh

i love my garmin because I can set a daily goal and I can join challenges like 300k a month

If you mean escaping grumpy teens i definitely agree - so nice to be out on my own for a peaceful walk in the park during the summer evenings!

Op good luck with your 15k steps until holiday challenge, there is a10k a day thread on this board, if you want to join us at any point people are often in the teen range: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/5536620-june-10k-a-day-club?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

Can you walk to and from work?

I’ve just finished mat leave and covered at least 20k steps per day, but it’s loads easier when you have all the time in the world, 2 x 30 minute school runs (I don’t drive) and a baby who only sleeps whilst in motion! 😂

I’m down to about 15k now I’m back at work. It’s about 35 mins to walk, or I try and run it a few times per week.

IhateBegonias · 15/06/2026 21:04

I got a treadmill which helps me get steps in throughout the day. My problem is I lost my smart watch and my new watch doesn’t count all my steps! Now appears some days I don’t even hit 10k!

I can't, it's a good 35 minute drive. I did walk quite a bit of the way home tonight though

Trying to forward plan 2m. I'm at a different site. Dh drops me off but I get there an hour earlier than I should so he can get to work. So I can walk then.

The rest of my day is busy though and setting off walking home is harder because of where work is 2m

Hi,
i can manage 10k easily without really thinking about but when I was doing 15k I had to be intentional so added in 30-40mins on the treadmill.

WelshRabBite · 15/06/2026 21:58

I am a huge walking fan, I think it’s the most underrated exercise out there, but I do think for toning you need to add strength exercises in.

If you can do just 10 press ups and sit ups every day, it will literally take you a few mins, but will really help tone your arms and stomach.

So in terms of changing body shape and building muscle, walking 14,500 steps and doing 10 sit ups and press ups every day would take a similar amount of time, but have more obvious impact.

Just something to consider 🤷‍♀️

Icecreamisthebest · 15/06/2026 22:55

Well done OP.

Another tip - if you have a sit stand desk, try to use the stand more.

TheLightBetween · 16/06/2026 10:17

I was thinking of this thread today. Also keen to increase my steps.

I've bought a secondhand Fitbit and tried to walk quicker on my walk today after reading this thread.

Managed 7,020 steps before work. Won't be able to do much during work but going to try after. Thanks for the motivation.

Will also consider doing some press ups etc

Gosh. You sound amazing- that’s inspiring. You make me feel very lazy. You deserve to be slim

Ah… it’s just a habit. I have an office job and could easily spend hours sitting at my desk working, but I made a decision that my health is more important. One day, if I become ill or develop back pain (like many of my colleagues have), I will be easily replaceable—but no one can replace my health.
My aim is not to be just slim (even I am as I have been all my life), mu aim is to be strong and healthy and no one is going to do that for me unless I do it.

socks1107 · 16/06/2026 19:57

I do 15k minimum a day. I’ve lost 3.5 stone since I started alongside CC and have made it an absolute habit I miss it if I have to miss a day for any reason. In winter I wrap up warm and still
go out.

I’m office based mostly and split the walks in four chunks of morning, lunchtime, after work and after dinner ( about 5000 is my commute between tube and the office)

Goodluck!

TheLightBetween · 16/06/2026 21:37

@socks1107 that is amazing.

NorthEastNancy · 17/06/2026 18:13

@socks1107 I'd love to see some weight loss - well done you!

Hit 15000 again - it's still hard fitting them in. Today I

*jumped out of my lift half an hour from work
*went for a walk at lunch
*did a lap round the corridors at work every time I nipped to the loo
*Set off home as soon as I could and dh picked me up on his way home

And I still had to jump out 20 mi utes from home and walk back as I hadn't hit it!

TheLightBetween · 17/06/2026 21:14

You are doing great.

I am at 14,220 I'm not sure I've got it in me to do the last bit. I managed 17,212 yesterday as I miss judged how far from home I needed to make up 2k steps.

TheLightBetween · 18/06/2026 22:42

14,682 today, I decide to be proud I was nearly there but I just ran out of time and can feel it.

BeardySchnauzer · 18/06/2026 22:55

When I’m that close I do laps of the house 🤣

but also I look at my steps over the week as I know some days I will struggle more than others

NorthEastNancy · 19/06/2026 05:41

I got to 13751 yesterday and thought bugger it but I was sat on my arse moaning about it to dh and he said "will it bother you if that's the one say you didn't make it?"

So out i went at bloody 9.30 last night!

OP posts:
loveyouradvice · 20/06/2026 04:13

what do you do in the evening? If its watch TV for a chunk of it, it's very easy to add a couple of thousand steps... on the spot, forward and back, whatever works for you...

for me, 2,000 steps is 20 mins... and to hit 12,000 that's 1h20 walking plus lots of "extras" round the house/office/wherever... a quick flight of stairs x 2, etc.

TheLightBetween · 20/06/2026 08:54

I struggled to do 10,000 yesterday, finished on 10,032. Just work was so busy I didn't take lunch and then found making up that time too much.

Would bouncing on a trampoline count as steps? That could be a way for me to add them.

Great to hear about how other people manage it, it helps with the motivation.

I'm off for a walk now, going to try and go a bit further to get me ahead for the day.

Have a good Saturday

NorthEastNancy · 20/06/2026 16:04

I did 25,000 yesterday!!

Walked to the station instead of getting a lift as dh was away, walked the long way round to work at the other end

Went for a walk and a chat at lunch

Walked i to the nearest city to meet ds for tea, walked round the shops...

Today we've been at a sitting down event so I've done hardly any. Heading home how and need to do the big shop then out for father's day tea at 5pm. Hoping to be in bed for 9.30 to get for the solstice on the beach so doubt I'll get anywhere near 15,000 today 😫😪

OP posts:
BeardySchnauzer · 20/06/2026 16:13

I’m aiming for 10k a day but I do it over the month with a minimum of 6k a day. So today I’ll most likely do 18k. Yesterday it was 14k. I find it makes it easier to manage as work days can be difficult and I couldn’t reliably make 10k

BeardySchnauzer · 20/06/2026 16:13

So you only need 5k today!!!

BurntBroccoli · 20/06/2026 16:21

It takes me 10 mins to do 1000, so that would be 150 mins (2 hours 30 mins) to do 15000.

It’s a lot to fit in especially in the winter with shorter days and dark nights.

WinterFrogs · 20/06/2026 16:21

I'm impressed with your consistency @NorthEastNancy!

Can i recommend also looking for walking workout videos on youtube? That's if you ever get time to yourself at home ( or can persuade family members to do it with you - I've had no luck with that) I've found that they can really increase steps and take less time to do it. Also a good whole body workout. I find myself much more knackered than after a walk, although though they are considered low intensity.
