Apps - which ones help?

Instagram is convinced I want to try using BitePal, which is apparently an app with an AI racoon that makes weight loss a game. Has anyone tried it and did it work? Am I better off with My Fitness Pal (probably yes)? Are there any apps which really do help?

Following as I desperately need to lose weight and nothing works

Think it depends what your goals are. I’ve seen ads for that raccoon one as well and it maybe gives some motivation where my fitness pal is just a logging tool. I pay for the nutracheck app which I like more than my fitness pal because it’s easier to search, everything has a pic so you can be sure and it includes lots of popular restaurant menus to add. But it’s just a logging tool so won’t give any motivational messages.

I just use the Fitbit app (now Google Health) to log calories and ensure I am in a calorie deficit. At the minute I am using the 30 day free trial of their paid for version, and will probably end up paying the £7.99 a month as I'm finding the "Coach" feature useful.

MFP is known for being inaccurate. Nutricheck better also Cronometer if in North America.
I’m a fan of Apple Watch.

Does the Google Health/FitBit app need you to actually have a fitbit or can you use it without one? It sounds worth a shot and I'm getting a bit downhearted about the whole thing!

I do tend to ignore motivational messages (Duolingo, I'm looking at you) so I will skip the AI racoon and test out some others.
