Slimming World - yay or nay?

I tried the first class - but I just don't know whether to carry on. It seems a bit happy clappy for me, and I was actually put off by the amount of people who had lost the weight, left, put it back on and started again. Surely if it's sustainable they shouldn't need to? Also the fact that if you miss a week without prior permission you get charged anyway! On the other hand I suppose it's good incentive. I'm going back and forth like a pendulum, and I'd really like to ask for your opinions and experiences.

It’s a business and they want repeat business. A calorie deficit lost me 4 stone in 6 months after failing at SW a few times. I also learned way more about nutrition and how to maintain my weight.

It works whilst you’re on plan. It works for me, but I adapt it by adding healthy fats etc. I add in an extra healthy B choice if I’ve had a cardio exercise session, that sort of thing. I don’t go to the classes anymore. I’ve lost stones on it and regained and then lost some more!

It is what it is, I still don’t really class it as a diet as I never track my portion size on it and fill up on all the free foods, so you don’t need to go hungry. Sometimes I just like to eat like a fatty and then the weight regains, but that’s my own choice. If I go back on it, it comes off.

Maybe in my 40s I’ll try the jabs but for now it’s good enough for me.

In my life I have tried and failed SW about 30 times, online and class. It’s not for me.
The only thing that worked for me was the jab and calorie counting. Now I’m off the jab for 5 months and just calorie counting and exercising. SW is so super restrictive I find. If I’m out and about and starving, I can’t be thinking “what’s syn free” and have to buy melon and a pack of Quorn for my dinner. I just buy a pack of 400 calorie sandwiches instead.
It’s good I find, if you have time to do a load of batch cooking and are super prepared but I’m not. It didn’t work for me long term at all

I love it! Very late convert here as my mum on it for years and a bit obsessed but I started 12 weeks ago and am down a stone. Yeah can be a bit happy clappy but for me as someone who emotionally eats its been great to notice my patterns whilst still eating pasta and making sure I fill up every meal. I tend to just go for weigh in and stay for half session...

@Noshowlomo Well that's another thing, I cook as little as possible and sitting listening to the bizarre concoctions people have cooked for their breakfast... I'm retired and even I can't find time for that!

I’ve used it a couple of times and lost weight while I stuck to it but it is definitely a business. It used to make me laugh when we were asked to buy raffle tickets or volunteer to deliver leaflets! My main criticism is that it is low fat and carb heavy. That doesn’t suit me now but also I understand that more modern diet advice is to be carb light and not go fat free yogurt etc.

I've tried SW a few times. First time hugely successful and I kept it of until I got pregnant. Second and third time massive fails. But its like anything though. While you are sticking to it it works, when you stop that is when you put the weight back on.

If you don't find the group talk and happy clappy bits useful, your better off just calorie counting at home.

I find it also encourages you to overeat. So if you’re in SW it’s because you eat too much, and suddenly it’s being promoted that you can eat ALL the pasta, rice and potatoes and lose weight, so you do, and do lose weight when you stick to it. Then you come off SW and still eat all the pasta, rice and potatoes but eat normally with everything else and all of a sudden you’ve gained all the weight you’ve lost.
They would also promote eating curly wurlys over an avocado as same amount of syns, but they’ve wised up to that now and I’m sure half an avocado may be a healthy extra.
The leader of my local group is also fatter than I am. It wasn’t inspirational

I’ve an issue with it as I’ve a relative who has done it on and off for decades and is now fatter than ever. Slimming world have the highest regain rate of all diet plans, 97 percent. It’s how they make their money, it simply isn’t sustainable. Weight watchers is nearly as bad, but not quite. At 95 percent.

and I suspect for slimming world that’s due to the ridiculous rules from the unlimited foods encouraging volume eating, to the utterly bland and tasteless concoctions it encourages, fat free, sugar free, meaning when people,stop they crave tasty real food so much.

id avoid.
