Questions about a low GI diet

I need to lose some weight and have decided to start following a low gi diet and control my portion size. I've bought a low gi cookbook but have a few questions. Which kind of spread/butter should I use? I did the atkins diet some time ago and regular butter was recommended (in order to avoid transfats I think). It was also recommended to use full fat mayo/creme fraiche/yoghurt etc. Is it the same for a low gi diet, or should I use the 'light' versions bearing in mind I want to lose weight?
