Using an opened Mounjaro pen after months in the fridge

Hello all

i used munjaro from Sept last year until Feb and got to 7 pounds off my goal weight, I feel good about myself for the first time in a long time. I stopped in Feb for various reasons and haven’t restarted. I’ve not put the weight back on, I’m careful and my appetite isn’t a big as it used to be, as in I eat much smaller, but appropriate portions now.

My question is this: since Feb I have a pen sitting in the fridge with a full dose and the bonus dose in. Next week my DH is away for 2 weeks for work and I want to use this time to get some of the 7 pounds off. you use this pen? It’s been ‘open’ for months.

Has anyone done this?

TY

Yes I have. I was using mounjaro then went over to wegovy because of the price rise, I still had 6 mounjaro pens in the fridge with just the golden doses left in them, so after a few months on wegovy I thought I may as well use them up. I had no terrible side effects from them and I lost lots of weight in that 6 weeks. People will tell you here that it’s unsafe and you are not using it as prescribed, but it’s honestly fine, as long as the pen is in date.

The pen isn’t in date though, as the printed expiry date only applies to unopened pens. No one should be saying it’s fine to use, because no one can know that. The longer a pen has been open the higher the risk of bacterial contamination and degradation of the medication. If it’s at all cloudy or has particles in it then absolutely don’t use it.
