Starting mounjaro - so scared!

As the title says. It’s sitting in my fridge and I’m too scared to start it.

need to shift about 2-2.5 stone, it’s gradually built up after each pregnancy and now I’m coming up to perimenopause it’s starting to pile on.

I only plan to be on it for about 6 months and then to carry on doing calorie counting after once a chunk of the weight has shifted

utterly fed up of feeling big frumpy and uncomfy in everything I wear, so it’s something I really want. But I’m so scared

i I have health anxiety as it is, and I’m so scared of side effects, becoming poorly and not being able to look after the kids!

can anyone give me the push!

You might want to post in the specific Weight Loss Treatments/Injections topic, it's a lot busier than here and the people who post here don't like it being used for WLI discussion. You could also report your own post and ask MN to move it to the other section.

I've been on Mounjaro since July 2024, and I have not once been so ill that I couldn't look after my children or otherwise not function. Most people don't get side effects or if they do they are mild and manageable. If you get side effects that you don't like you can simply not do another injection, and the medication will wear off with most of it out of your system a week after injecting and all of it in a month.

If you are obese, or significantly overweight with a weight related health condition, then you are risking your health just by remaining obese/overweight. Presumably that's why you originally applied for a prescription for Mounjaro, so I would try to focus on the fact that you are taking action to improve your overall health.

And then, just set aside 5 minutes when you will be uninterrupted and get on with the first injection!

Hi, I've not been on WLI but I have lost 2.5 st in 8 months through calorie counting - nothing drastic, just healthier choices and sustaining a deficit every day. It can be done, if you're wanting to avoid medication.

I recommend you join the May mounjaro starters thread on the WLI boards for advice and support.

However, it’s not just a weight loss drug as it affects your metabolism, hormones and endocrine system etc.

If you’ve already tried normal dieting - eating less/moving more and it’s not shifting that could indicate that you have other issues that are sabotaging your weight loss. Maybe hormone related (especially for ladies hitting peri menopause)?

In which case, it’s more likely that you’ll simply regain any lost weight as soon as you come off it so for many users, it’s not a simple quick fix and they need to carry on taking WLI for a year or two at a maintenance level after getting to their target weight.

Have a read through a few threads on the WLI board to really understand how it works before you commit yourself.
