Why does 1 day of bad eating make the scales go up immediately, but 2 weeks of ‘good eating’ does nothing?!

Haven’t lost anything in weeks despite calorie restricting and walking over 10k steps a day.

Then I have a day eating whatever I want and boom. The scale says I’m 3lb heavier.

I know a lot of that will be water weight but it’s so frustrating.

Yes, it’s v frustrating. I now don’t weigh myself after an indulgence. Get back on track, wait a few days, then weigh.

It's all water weight. You can't get bogged down in that.

Water retention

OrlandointheWilderness · 10/05/2026 14:14

Absolutely no way you can put on 3kb of fat in a day OP!

ShutItTadger · 11/05/2026 17:35

I'm "up" 4lb after doing the same but it'll be gone in a few days time.

It’s water weight, but it’s still annoying. I’m the same Op, i think for 18 months my actual weight has been almost static except for a swinging pendulum of about 4-5lbs either side of water weight that I lose and gain repeatedly.

BreakingBroken · 12/05/2026 00:48

for me i really react to salt, and things like potato chips, crisps, asian cuisine or even a steak house meal even if within my limit has me retaining x many pounds of "weight" it takes a couple days to flush the salt effect (banana's help).

This happens to me too, really annoying when I’ve been good all week, and one indulgence puts me back to square one.

What’s water weight and what diet of foods cause it?
