Share with me those "I'm surprised that's actually not all that high in calories" or "surprised that's pretty healthy" meals.
Not for everyone I'm sure but I've been trying to increase the iron in my diet for some time so I sometimes have black pudding for breakfast. This morning it was two slices of Bury Black Pudding plus some chestnut mushrooms (high vitamin D) all fried in some spray oil.
When I was young, black pudding had those horrible lumps of fat in it. But most aren't like that anymore and are actually pretty low in fat and make me feel full as there is a reasonable amount of protein and fibre.
I don't weigh my food but two slices of back pudding, about 80g mushrooms, 10 sprays of spray oil and about 1-2 tbsp low sugar ketchup (for those who count calories) that would be about 180 calories, I calculate it as 7g protein, 14mg iron, 4.6g fibre plus vitamins D and B12.
I also sometimes have chicken sausages for breakfast with mustard and mushrooms or home made cold sauerkraut to preserve the probiotics (trust me, it's awesome) and rotate this with bircher muesli made with kefir, a small amount of oats and chopped dates (soaked if I have time), cinnamon and a lot of grated apple.
