Weightloss and thighs

mumneeds · 09/02/2026 18:06

I have lost three stone in weight - I now have a BMI of 20, 5ft 7 and 9 stone….
i can’t for the life of me get rid of the pocket of fat on my inner thighs and my thighs in general
losing more weight will make me look ill on the top half yet my thighs are still big.

any suggestions on how to get rid of it - please?!

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss! I'd say targeted working out on that area - weighted squats, lateral lunges, side leg raises etc. I'm sure you can find more online, but I also wouldn't worry too much - we are always our own harshest critics. Just enjoy your achievement!

Thank you - I know I should be happy I’ve lost that much but then I just see my thighs and think I need to lose more but it continually comes off the wrong places

I also have torn cartilage in both my hips so some exercises are out of bounds on the legs as it doesn’t agree with my hips

Liposuction is the only way to target fat loss. Women’s thighs have fat! They’re going to have some… your thighs are not big if you are 9st at your height.

That will just make them more muscular it won’t do anything about fat stored in the area

That’s the thing … they are … it’s like the fat I do have is all stored in my thighs! You would think by 9 stone my legs would have thinned out. They have thinned out but I have a big pocket of fat on the inner thigh. I have thin calves, then at the knee is goes out with fat and gradually gets bigger. I’m not being over dramatic. It’s a fact…

Google lipedema @mumneeds . It’s something I’m pretty sure I have because I have pads of lumpy fat on and around my knees that regardless of exercise or diet I cannot lose. Unfortunately lipo is probably the only treatment though I do believe a low carb diet is beneficial too.

I have this problem and am thinking of getting the pockets of fat sucked out! There are just stubborn areas of fat at my inner thighs, right at the top that will not budge even when I’m slim and fit. I’m looking at cool sculpting but not sure I’m brave enough but I get sick of all the hard work and still being unhappy.

It did for me, the muscle replaced fat and reshaped my thighs.

I think targeting exercise will tone them well. I'd try this before thinking about having surgery

LlamaFluff · 17/02/2026 22:50

You’ll only look ill on top because you don’t have much muscle there. How much strength training did you do while dieting?

Muscle gives you shape, so while you can’t spot reduce fat by targeting specific area with exercise, you will look better with more muscle.

mumneeds · 19/02/2026 12:36

I definitely need to do more strength exercise. I concentrated more on spin as I was running before then had to stop because of the hips

I have dumb bells at home. Any YouTube recommendations? I’ve done Caroline Girvan before

I was just about to say this.

Do you have any idea how heavy you have to lift to build chunky muscles?

lifting heavier weights will build up muscles that decline with age. Older women with little muscle mass look older

weight training stimulates collagen and fibroblasts which improve skin tautness and the slight increase in mass is muscle which looks totally different from fat.

Strength training recomps your body. It just completely reshapes you.

Yes can’t believe how much it’s reshaped my body and I haven’t even really got going properly with heavy weights

whattheysay · 20/02/2026 08:33

What did your thighs look like beige you put on the weight? Because this may be what your body looks like. People store fat differently and it’s nothing to do with being fat. Sometimes we have an idea of what we want our bodies to look like but after weight loss it will look like what your body shape is just with less fat on it. Also weight loss can change the look of your body with loose skin and this pocket of fat could be a fold of looser skin.
