Please help - a month and no weight loss

Long story short, my weight crept up at the back end of last year and then over Christmas. I'm not overweight but I'm not where I want to be. I'm 5"10 and about 11st 13lb and want to lose about five or six pounds.

Anyway, after an early Jan holiday I have tried to get a grip. I kicked alcohol (one month free of it today), have been walking 10k steps a day and I'm on a calorie deficit (worked out by my Fitness Pal with a 2lb per week weight loss aim.)

I have done this before - and although not easy and quite slow have lost significant amounts of weight. On one go I lost two stone! (Adding this as evidence that I'm not secretly eating more than I should be as I do weigh food and record everything meticulously!).

BUT it's a month on and I HAVE LOST NOT ONE SINGLE POUND. In fact - the scales are teetering upwards!

Please help as this is totally demoralising. I also fell off the wagon for the first time last night and had a pig out - so starting afresh today.

If you have been sticking to your calories for a month and not lost weight then either the calorie total is too high and you are actually at maintenance level and/or there is something medical going on, perhaps thyroid related? What was your daily calorie total over the last month?

If you haven’t lost, you are eating too many calories. How many did you calculate?

IMTOOMessy · 08/02/2026 18:05

1,680 a day.

I’m Type One diabetic (insulin from a child - not type two) so that may be a factor.

But it’s just sapping every bit of motivation!!!

I think that MyFitnessPal is being a bit optimistic there with suggesting a 2lbs a week loss at around 1700 calories a day. Could you try 1500 a day for a week and see if that makes a difference?

IMTOOMessy · 08/02/2026 18:09

Okay thank you - I’ll give that a go. 😩

I have definitely thought about monthly weigh in now rather than weekly. Save on the frequent disappointment.

Lost 5lb January with doing dry January, increased activity but have soon found it again. It was the worse result ever.

ni weight loss means you’re eating to maintenance, so either your tdee is lower or this time you’re underestimating your cals per day averaged from the week, likely both,

it’s not possible it’s medical related unless it’s fluid retention or inflammation, and that would be a lot of fluid or inflammation and you’d be very unwell,

so it means this time your counting is off somewhere,

1680 is quite high. Are you also eating back your exercise calories.
Go lower and try to remain as unprocessed as possible.
