Help massive weight gain

I have gained 6kg in 6 months, I mean my clothes are a bit tighter so I expected to have gained some but not 6kg, I will admit I don’t walk as much as I was. I’m autistic so very limited with my food. BMI is 29.7 now, I feel very deflated.

Do you know why? Walking less wouldn't have led to that sort of weight gain. Have you changed your eating habits? Been drinking mire alcohol?

TOWGA · 05/01/2026 10:06

nope I don’t drink alcohol, haven’t changed eating habits as I’m very small on what I eat being autistic. Tbh if anything I have had less takeaways!

It sounds like a lot, but over six months it averages out at an extra 250 cals per day*, which is less than a Mars bar. Or conversely if you've stopped a daily walk that was 3-4 miles long that would burn approx 250 cals.
Do you think that sounds about right?

*Based on that very generalised "3500 cals is a pound of fat".

TOWGA · 05/01/2026 11:26

That’s sounds about right an extra snack here and there and a lot less walking

Worth a blood test to check your thyroid.

I've gained about 20kg in a year. Most of that is from not walking any more. When I was on maternity leave I walked everywhere, lost 20kg. In the year since I've gone back to work it's all gone back on.
It's so easily done. A little here and little there and it all adds up.

Good news is you can get rid of it again in 6 months by making sure you are in a 250cal deficit. Good luck!

Firetreev · 07/01/2026 16:05

It could entirely equate to 6kgs in 6 months. It's 1kg a month which is an excess of around 235cals a day. A brisk 3/4 walk a day would burn this.

You should do a food diary. And find out how many calories you need to eat to lose weight.

It must just be mindless snacking and less exercise . Unless your portion sizes are creeping up? Maybe start weighing your food?
