Welcome to anyone who is looking to get lighter this year!

I’m mid 40s, have 2-3st to lose. Started weight loss in last 3/4 months but it’s bounced back up a bit over Christmas.

Doing some exercise, tracking calories in app, not doing WLI though check those threads with interest.

A new accountability thread here to keep in touch with people who are doing the same.

I’ll be popping in here most days to say hi and check in for support but won’t be putting detailed info about what I’ve eaten.

Weigh in - I like to weigh every day but know to average it out over a few days so don’t post daily weigh in here, just weekly ish.

It is happening this year 💪

@MunsteadWood well done for getting started. On the weighing, I prefer to do daily and always do first thing in the morning before eating/drinking anything - I find that the most stable way of tracking.

@MightyGoldBear i tend to have breakfast and snacks that are similar most days so they are quick to track

lunch and dinner vary as cooking for whole family but sometimes eat leftovers or lunch soup over a few days

i find the app I use quite quick. You can copy whole meals eg breakfast from previous day plus you can photo scan meals now which has actually been pretty close

Bit of a slip up last night (wine and chocolate related) but back to it today - shred dvd done, out for breakfast but had scrambled eggs on one slice of toast no butter so still fine for calories and I’ve prepped lunch to take to work for the next two days - prawn version of the viral cucumber salad 😁

How are you meant to know how many calories you need to eat? I am mostly staying under 1200 calories (except yesterday!) and not finding it too hard as long as I am planned and organised.

NormalForNorfoIk · 08/01/2026 19:48

Weekly weigh in this evening and only a small loss, down from 70.6kg to 70.4kg but got my period today so not too disheartened. A loss is a loss after all. Had a good week of eating so far and did a Joe Wicks workout this morning, all very positive and feeling good!

TheDogsMother · 08/01/2026 21:52

I still haven’t weighed yet as I did go I bit mad over Christmas. I will face the music with that on Saturday. I have been on track this week and will weigh regularly this weekend on.

Silverblue1985 · 09/01/2026 00:08

@MikeEcho There are TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) calculators on,one, which give you an idea of maintenance calories. Don’t overestimate activity levels though, which is easily done. 500 kcal less than that should lead to weight loss of around 1lbs per week, though I generally wouldn’t go below 1200-ish calories a day, or at least not without seeking advice first.
I tend to average over the week, which makes it a bit more flexible.

These calculators aren’t an exact science and everyone is different of course, so this can only ever provide a rough guide.

I'm going to join to make myself accountable. Just weighed myself this morning and I'm just over 10 stone. I would love to get to 9 stone again but will aim for 9 and a half for now as it's realistic. I'm 5 foot 3 and 51 years old.
I'm in enforced/medical menopause due to having had breast cancer. I used to lose weight relatively easily but crash menopause like this is shit and makes it really hard to lose!
I did 5:2 in the past (pre 2021 and cancer and menopause) which worked.

AreYouBrandNew · 10/01/2026 10:45

Morning everyone hope you all had a good week. Bad one here. I’ve completely out my back out and had family stuff going on so exercise and tracking on hold. Not eating much tho so hopefully still on track. Backs are so annoying.

AreYouBrandNew · 10/01/2026 10:46

@Vinorosso74 good luck with first few days. Are you going to try 5:2 again?

@NormalForNorfoIk well done on your loss!

Sorry you are poorly @AreYouBrandNew hope your back is better soon!

Hardly ate anything yesterday then drank my body weight in Prosecco so far from ideal… shred this afternoon once I finish work and weekly weigh in is tomorrow morning - fingers crossed to be under 11st

AreYouBrandNew · 10/01/2026 10:46

@Vinorosso74 good luck with first few days. Are you going to try 5:2 again?

I hope your back is ok soon. What a bugger.
Not sure whether to do 5:2. I used to manage ok delaying eating on the 500 caloroe days but get very lightheaded now if I don't have something. This medical menopause has completely changed how I lose and especially gain weight! I might see how I go with a couple of weeks of much more sensible eating first.

HurdyGurdy19 · 10/01/2026 13:48

Sorry to hear you're not well, @AreYouBrandNew , and hope you recover well, and soon.

I am not anticipating good news on the scales on Monday morning. We were away for a few of days this week, and did managed a fair bit of walking (around 12,000 steps, against my usual 5-6,000). However we did eat out all the time and it was difficult to track calories.

Went to our local garden centre yesterday and succumbed to a cappuccino (forgot to get my husband to order a skimmed milk one 🙄) and. a scone (massive) with clotted cream and jam - although I only ate half

Husband cooked last night - some posh steak and ale pie, with buttery mash and vegetables, so that is bound to have been calorific. And it was my son's birthday yesterday and we're going out for dinner tonight, to a new Italian restaurant that's opened in town. They have spaghetti carbonara on the menu, and there is no way I am passing up on that. So again, heavy on the calories.

I will need to spend the rest of the weekend on the walking pad, trying to counteract some of the damage!

Fingers crossed for everyone else and their weigh ins, whenever they are

MikeEcho · 11/01/2026 07:26

Weigh in after week 1 - 11st1 so 2lb down. I am on my period and did have a couple of days that I did not stick to the calorie count this week so I will take it!

On to level 2 of the evil dvd shred today so at least I have kept up with that - overall I do feel much better in myself 😊

Pixie2015 · 11/01/2026 20:55

The christmas gain was not as bad as expected 1LB did try to be careful. This weekend we have been finishing off christmas nibbles / cheese. Hopefully this will be a good week for us all x

Silverblue1985 · 11/01/2026 23:40

@AreYouBrandNew I hope you feel better soon!
@MikeEcho Well done on your loss!

I am back home now so enough of the irresistible bakery items and other nice stuff I can’t get in the UK (and the endless chocolate and sweet supply of my mother, right in front of you).
Supermarket shop being delivered tomorrow and healthy cooking is back in the cards. Hopefully the warmer weather also helps, it was still -8C when I left at 1pm!
My GERD has held up remarkably well but I have noticed first issues now so that’s got to be the end of it anyway.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

AreYouBrandNew · 12/01/2026 09:36

Thanks everyone - the last few days have been a pile on with back and family problems so I’m going to be pretty absent on weight loss and in here.

good luck and hoping to hear lots of good updates when I’m back later this week

OP posts:
HurdyGurdy19 · 12/01/2026 10:43

Weighed in today and have gained 1lb. Given we went away for a couple of days last week, so calories were out of my control, plus we went out for dinner for my son's birthday at the weekend, I'm not too disappointed.

Back to scrupulously counting and tracking calories this week, and hoping to lose this week's gained pound, plus another 2lbs, next week.

Size40Shoes · 12/01/2026 13:46

Bit frustrated as I have gained 1lb - I always do this whenever I get within 3lb of the next drop. I will say I did have pizza on Friday at a work event and we couldn't go out for lunch so no choice.

Silverblue1985 · 14/01/2026 11:30

I’ve braved the scales today - 66.8kg, so about 2kg more than before Christmas. As expected really, with what I’ve eaten.

I am back doing C25K (second run today for this week) and around 1300kcal a day.

Twist in the plot - I unexpectedly have to travel for work all of next week, leaving Monday and coming back Sunday. Will be difficult to manage calories as I’m staying is a smaller town as well so limited choice of restaurants (more so as I’m on the outskirts). Also won’t manage my runs. Will try and do my best!

Congratulations @AreYouBrandNew !

HurdyGurdy19 · 18/01/2026 11:36

Well done, @AreYouBrandNew . It's always an uplifting feeling to see the numbers going down.
Im weighing in tomorrow, and had hoped to be a stone-number down. I don't think it's going to happen, but as long as the pounds number is down, I'll be happy.

Vinorosso74 · 18/01/2026 14:23

Well done @AreYouBrandNew .
I weighed myself this morning, bang on 10 stone, 2 pounds down on last Sunday.

Size40Shoes · 18/01/2026 19:19

Weigh in tomorrow..
