@thenewaveragebear1983. I was thinking about you all day yesterday. There’s always a lot of info to take in when you change jobs but it will be fine. The first week is the worst and that will go very quickly and you did well with food too.

I had a good day with food yesterday, I came in around 1300 calories. We were back at the hospital and although I didn’t feel it had gone well in the previous two weeks the hand specialist was very pleased with the progress. I have a different brace/splint to wear at night and I have to wear a surgical glove every day for three months, which was a bit of a shock. The physio man said it had been a very big operation in a very small area which was exceptionally difficult for the surgeon and a lot of surgeons wouldn’t have been able to do it so I’m very lucky. I’ve got to go back in three weeks and I’ve got a lot of homework in the way of physio/massage every day.

Grocery shopping today and I’m hoping I will be able to chop up salad now, although it won’t be pretty. strangely enough, I’ve been craving prawns, I had some many weeks ago and really enjoyed them with a jacket potato and salad. I’m going to get some of those today and probably eat them all week until the craving dies down. Better to crave prawns than chocolate.

It’s raining here and so depressing so I think the rest of the day will be housework.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hope your second day goes well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/04/2026 20:02

today was a bit better, I did all the boring e-learning modules 🥱 but at least I could crack on with them.

I’m really really tired now though and dehydrated, I realised today that my period still hadn’t come which makes about 33 days this cycle which is long for me, and i ended up eating loads of biscuits after dinner. I’ve just scraped in on my maintenance calories.

tomorrow I have the same breakfast and lunch, I’ve been really enjoying those, and dinner will be chicken breast wrapped in bacon with veg. As long as I keep away from the biscuits I should be ok. 👌

@poorpawsi love prawn jacket potato, with Marie Rose sauce 😋

Changing jobs is incredibly mentally taxing! It’s the new social cues and relationships too. I’ve done fairly well, reckon I’m a lb or 2 down already but my proper weigh day is tomorrow, so I’ll see how I get on! Tuesday evening was tricky as I had a mad evening at work so was knackered and fell into half a pack of hobnobs- I’m hoping this was offset by doing 18k steps (I work in retail) and a half hour swim!
Todays food was a bit junky but within calories, finished on 1560 so hopefully clawed back a bit ready for weigh in 💪🏼

TalkToTheHand123 · 15/04/2026 22:02

Love to all.

I went for a walk around town for lunch as temporarily at a different office for a few days. Came across a sushi place and ordered what I thought would be a nice box of suchi, turned out to be 4 little suchi rolls. Absolutely fuming.

poorpaws · 15/04/2026 22:09

In the last few days, I’ve typed three or four long posts and lost them so I’m giving up tonight. I hope everyone’s okay, I’ll be back tomorrow when I’m not so cross. I’ve had the most horrendous day with food too, it’s not gone well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/04/2026 22:10

I had a much better day today.

my period is still not here, I think I’m on day 35 now and to be honest I am feeling very tired, and like my body is just waiting for the release, I feel quite hormonally wound up. I ate really good meals today but went over/high on cals by just having bits here and there. Dh and I went for a nice run after work which was nice to blow off the cobwebs

Off for another swim in a second. Official weigh in was 15st 6 so only 1lb loss (but this is since 12th, so not the full week). Bought some lovely summer bits and bobs this morning - so just need to get beach ready for then!

TalkToTheHand123 · 16/04/2026 12:33

Ah that reminds me I had plans to start swimming again. Currently going a bit off track making the most of being at the city centre for a few days. Sampling some Chinese food.

poorpaws · 16/04/2026 20:13

It seems I usually lose posts when I’m on my phone, so I’m doing this on my iPad 🤞

Four days into my first week back into healthy eating and I had two good days but the last two days have been absolutely horrendous. I just don’t know what’s wrong with me, I can’t stop eating. I just graze all day but the evenings are worse.

We went to our café today and were able to sit outside which was nice. Tomorrow I’m going to M&S because they’ve sent me 20% off most of the store because it’s some sort of anniversary with my credit card. I’m specifically going to look at a jacket which I saw in the distance last time I went in but I hadn’t got time to look at it. I know it was very expensive but I thought if it is lovely and I get 20% off it might be just what I’m looking for. I’m not allowed to drive with my hand injury so DP will drive me there and pick me up later

I really need to stop eating in the evening. I have a good dinner with a nice dessert and then I start again. it’s just ridiculous. I seem to have lost all the willpower I had in the first three months of this year and I need to claim it back, but I’m not sure how and the weight is just going to go on again.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hope you are enjoying your new job, I do keep thinking about you. I know just how stressful it is at first, so much to learn, so many people to meet and get to know and the anxiety of trying to impress.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/04/2026 20:58

I have been like that recently too @poorpaws, do you think your hand is affecting the quality of your sleep and you’re extra tired? That’s what I think causes mine sometimes.

I have had a good couple of days, it was nice not going into the office today and I have ended the day within my calorie allowance for the first time in a long time. I made a baked biryani for dinner but it wasn’t very nice, quite tasteless and the rice wasn’t 100% cooked so there were occasional crunchy bits which was not nice. I am really tired so I had a bath and I’m going to go to bed early hopefully. I did manage a run this morning and I’m glad I went out early as I would not have gone after work.

i will be glad to end the week tomorrow, it’s been good but very busy. This Sunday I have a lovely day spa with the ladies from my gym, we deserve a nice day in the sauna after a winter of outdoor bootcamp in the rain and mud!

@thenewaveragebear1983 I’m not sure if my hand is the culprit. I am very low atm and I absolutely detest the 25 mins of intense physio I have to do on my hand four times a day, it really is a workout and leaves me drained.

ive just eaten another big bar of Tony’s chocolate, this has to stop! A definite gain for me again this week

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/04/2026 22:31

You’re probably still recovering from your surgery and the anaesthetic. Did you have a general? I find they make me feel very unwell and down and my mum always finds the same whenever she’s had anything. I know physio is horrible but it really will help you, if you have to prioritise one thing I would focus on that and worry about the diet when you’re feeling better.

OP posts:
TheGirlWhoLived · 17/04/2026 09:29

@poorpaws sometimes you just have to give yourself grace to heal, and if that’s with a great big bag of Tony’s then that’s what it is! I’ve fallen in love with a Zara jacket that is £140, it’s so beautiful but that’s a weeks food shop so alas I must resist 🤣
hope the retail therapy brings you joy!

Similarly @thenewaveragebear1983 i hope the spa is lovely! I went into the spa area of my gym yesterday for a steam and a jacuzzi, really rewarding after burning 500cals swimming

Had KFC last night, which wasn’t necessarily the plan. Tried to eat as healthily as possible and atoning for my sins by having lots of veggies today. Going to stick some music on and attack the housework, also got to make some pinwheel pizzas for my daughter as she fancies them for tea!

TheGirlWhoLived · 17/04/2026 09:32

@TalkToTheHand123 sampling Chinese sounds delicious, I think I’m going to have something Asian-esque for dinner, make a sort of Buddha bowl with some rice, pak Choi, marinate chicken, pickled carrot

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/04/2026 19:40

@TheGirlWhoLived I love the steam and sauna, I haven’t even booked a treatment this time I am just going to take a few magazines and just laze about all day

finished work after a long week, I was booked on the gym and it was cancelled last minute so I could very easily have said screw it and had a bottle of wine and maybe some chocolate- but no, I really made myself resist. I did 20 minutes with my weights and then did 20 minutes of yoga, nothing strict just wafted through a few flows and now I feel much better and really glad I didn’t have it. I’m super tired and wind would probably have just knocked me out anyway

TalkToTheHand123 · 18/04/2026 05:09

It did sound that @TheGirlWhoLived , however after what felt a very long wait, what arrived required a magnifying glass to view. It was a very small portion.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2026 07:25

Good morning, happy Saturday! I slept well and I’m feeling good today. What’s everyone’s plans?

the thing that might derail me today is that we have no food in! While that could be a dieters dream it’s actually not ideal is it? I have a couple of chicken thighs left from last night which I will have with salad for lunch and dinner will have to wait until Tesco have been at 6pm.

Today I am walking with my friend and dogs, then we are going to look at sheds (strangely excited about this because it’s the next step in our home gym plan becoming real!). Bit of tidying, whack a few things on vinted and do some clearing out and try on a load of my clothes to decide if i actually want them cluttering up my wardrobe. I feel like I’ve spent a lot of money recently but I still don’t have anything to actually wear 🤣

TheGirlWhoLived · 18/04/2026 07:41

I have the day off work today 💃🏼 usually work a Saturday so it’s nice to be free. The girls have musical theatre and then are going to probably be bedroom-bound for the rest of the day. (They are 15 and very nearly 12). Dh is going to take ds (5) for a swim in the outdoor pool whilst I do a gym workout. Then it’s home,
I want to do a bit of batch cooking for the kids to grab, so have pizza pinwheels ingredients but I want to do something healthier for breakfast- maybe a breakfast flapjack or something? We’ll see!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2026 09:44

Would you eat baked oats @TheGirlWhoLived? I love them. I am planning to make some myself today! I use a standard recipe of 30g oats and 1/2 egg per portion I am making (so eg my tin is square and makes 8 slices so I use 240g oats and 4 eggs. I then add : chia seeds , flax seeds, cinnamon , vanilla extract, grated apple or raisins or other fruit (frozen raspberries are nice), touch of baking powder. You could add sugar or sweetener or honey but I don’t. Grease and line your tin and bake like a cake, then cut into squares. They freeze really well. Take one out and either defrost or microwave and serve with yogurt and fruit 😋 before I went gluten free I would also use half weetabix/oats so 1 box and 15g oats per portion

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2026 09:46

Oh my other favourite one is rhubarb and custard flavour, you add a scoop of custard powered into the mixture and the fruit you add is rhubarb (obvs) with apple for sweetness. Loosen it with a bit of milk if the custard makes it too solid.

OP posts:
TheGirlWhoLived · 18/04/2026 11:26

That sounds delicious! Definitely will give that a go, I’ll let you know how I get on. I got a good ‘gut booster 35 seed mix’ from m and s that I sprinkle on kvarg and berries, I could pop them in too! Might try apple and blueberry as due to a substitution I have 3 bags of frozen blueberries. Another option is something pancake-y but a healthy oat version

TheGirlWhoLived · 18/04/2026 11:27

The 🐷 in me is also wondering whether I can also do biscoff and banana baked oats? That would be epic

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/04/2026 14:45

Oh I think you absolutely could 👍 I also make a sugar free, dairy free and gluten free banana cake using very ripe squashed bananas, oats and eggs and peanut butter so hell yeah, I reckon you could throw some biscoff in there instead of PB

it’s a really versatile base actually, once you get the consistency right like a thick cake mix you can pretty much add anything
