Ideas for Christmas stocking that aren’t chocolate!

My husband and I don’t do massive gifts, but usually do a stocking each. Mine is usually all chocolate and baileys! But obviously I don’t want that this year, being half way through my big weight loss journey. So he’s asking me for ideas, and I haven’t a clue. I’m not that bothered about anything, Christmas doesn’t do it for me really.

Nice shower gels? Moisturiser? Lip balms?

CarlaLemarchant · 02/12/2025 22:51

Nice shower gel, socks, perfume, lip balms, nail varnish, gift card, fancy pair of knickers, scented candle, book.

Depends on how big the stocking and how big the budget.

Maybe things to inspire your healthy eating journey - some exotic spices perhaps that cost a little more: saffron, infused olive oils, organic herbal teas - that kind of thing?

Do you have any hobbies? Maybe small things attached to that.

If you like gardening, how about some new tools, maybe a better brand than you usually have.
I've asked for a Hori hori knife this year, and my dh has bought me a pair of Velcro on knee pads for my birthday today which I can't wait to use.

My dd did us a stocking last year and put in various handmade Christmas decorations she bought from independent artists on Etsy.

If you knit or crochet, maybe some nicer needles or hooks, or some hand dyed or premium material wool.

My three adult kids still get stockings. My youngest is allergic to cocoa so nothing containing chocolate or cocoa butter which rules out a lot of things. Last year I bought her some little tubs of jelly with oranges in as a choc orange replacement and she loved it.
They usually have a drink of some sort in there, sometimes a favourite one, sometimes an unusual one like a Japanese version. This year they are getting a can of premixed cocktails. ED doesn't drink so has a can of Pina colada mocktail

Scarf, jewellery, small knitted items. These are extremely versatile, you can buy something expensive, handmade, cheap, vintage or artwork within each category.

Goodness me! The whole point of a Christmas stocking is that it’s full of lovely surprises, maybe following the tradition of something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been asked what I’d like in mine. The minute one’s asked such a question the joy has gone out of and it’s just more labour.
