How long for perception to shift?

I’ve recently lost quite a bit of weight. I really don’t know how much at all - historically whenever I have weighed myself I’ve slipped back into disordered eating habits, so I haven’t done so.

However - it is a reasonable amount! I’ve gone from squeezing into size 16s to generally being around a size 10 at 5 foot 8. Lots of people have commented on how much weight I’ve lost, so evidently it is noticeable and the way that my clothes fit is entirely different.

Objectively, I can tell I have lost weight and my body has changed quite a lot (particularly with taking up weights at the gym) and I’ve had to buy lots of new clothes and I am probably feeling the most confident that I’ve felt in a long time.

BUT - I don’t feel any different. I look in the mirror and I feel like I look the same as ever. To those of you who have lost weight before, how long did it take your brain to catch up with what you see in the mirror?

I only see it when comparing photographs, they are easier to look at objectively. Congratulations on your weight loss/health improvements.

Well done, it's not easy. Like the pp, I only see it when I compare photos of how I used to look.

I find it a real struggle to adjust my perception of myself. I have gone down more than 4 stone from a size 18 to a size 10 and when buying new dresses for an upcoming cruise, I noticed that the first few I ordered were more or less the same style as before despite being so much smaller and more toned. Vinted gave the confidence to branch out once I realised what I was doing and I have bought some bargainous beautiful fitted dresses that amazingly I fit in to and that feels great!
