Why are the scales not shifting despite loads of cardio exercise???

Been doing a 30 min Tae Bo DVD 4/5 times a week, plus press ups and weights....although I've lost inches, clothes feel better etc. The scales are not budging!!

When can I expect to see something? I am not dieting but I have drastically reduced my junk intake and don't smoke or drink

Blimey.....so maybe I need to cut out toast for breakfast altogether?? I can't replace with yoghurt and milk though as they really bloat me and I cannot stand soya milk. I can have goats milk in my tea no problem but not in cereal.....

Feck....what to eat?

Do you eat a lot of carbs Puss? I'm a bit of a carb addict TBH and really need to find alternatives especially for snacking.

I have fruit and yoghurt

not if you like toast but again i would check out how much you have

and i dont ever have butter or marge on bread either

if i need something i put on some olive oil but not often

in fact if i have olive oil it is instead of anything else on bread

I think you do need to look more at what you are eating. I used weight loss resources website to give me a kick start, and help to learn about what i should be eating. It does cost about £10 a mnth but I only used it for the first few weeks just to help me sort out a balanced diet. I eat about 1800 calories a day, try to keep it high in protein and low in carbs and fat, and work out at least three times a week, for about 90 mins on cardio. Things like the mini barts of green and blacks are good for evenings for sugar cravings. I should really be working on muscle building too, but I don't enjoy it very much. I've lost 10lbs in 5 weeks, and lots of cms off of hips, bust and waist.

My weight has also stopped dropping at the moment, but I can see the muscle definition improving so I know I am getting results. There are also sites where you can work out your body fat too, if you have a google, whihc might give you a better indication.

and I often eat those go ahead bars and a piece of fruit for breakfast, as I don't always have time to sit and eat cereal. Might be an idea?

when i do talk to people who want to lose weight i am generally amazed at the huge amount they eat

and what they eat

and of course once you have lost weight then your body needs even less to sustain it than before

i think it is important to find foods which mean you dont feel hungry...maybe i am lucky that a high fruit and veg diet suits me

i hardly eat any meat...and the cut of the meat is important

but i did use lots of prawns

and trout and smoked salmon tinned red salmon

Chops - what do you snack on? I used to have dried fruit; raisins, apricots or prunes but I'm trying to cut my carbs and exchnage for something more protein based. Are all nuts high in calories or would that be a good swop- I like unsalted cashews?

the complete guide to sports nutrition is an interesting book if you want to look into the science

a weight loss of 1 or 2 lbs a week is enough too more than that unless you are very very overweight can be undesirable

nuts and seeds are high

but i have sunflower seds and pumpkin seeds sometimes as snacks

dried fruit is more concentrated than fresh fruit in sugars so fresh fruit you get more mouth staisfaction

for the energy input

i dont restrict how much fruit i eat but i probably just eat less at meals

all nuts are quite high, I'm afraid.

I do try not to snack, though at the weekends when I'm not so busy I sometimes do. I'll have fruit, yoghurt, juice or a smoothie, packet of snack a jack popcorn, packet of mini jaffa cakes, couple of ryvita with philly, something like that?

Saggar - my usual snack is almonds and bananas. Pre DS, I suffered badly with bloat and dairy problems so I saw a nutritionist and she mentioned snacking on sunflower seeds, almonds etc.

I freaked and trotted out the omg they are high in fat etc line but she pointed out they are high in the good fats and it was ok to eat them and not to worry about calorific value...so I didn't and I tell you, the weight fell off me. Was eating sour dough rye bread spread with almond butter for breakfast, green tea with mint (no milk, no sugar), salad for lunch and then for dinner would be a lot of salads, no wheat, no dairy except goats milk in the odd cup of tea....but it was doable then...now with a toddler and a DH that doesn't cook, I really struggle with finding a main meal that pleases everyone!

Ah, now Philly, I could do the whole tub. Start with a couple of Ritz crackers and then forget the crackers and just have the Philly!

cant you do that diet again it sounds perfect and just give dh extra bread pasta and rice and potato if he is hungry

or eat half as much as you give him

Yes I eats lots of bananas too which I know aren't the best thing but they are convenient.

I don't really have to lose weight (maybe half a stone max) but as I'm approaching the menopause it's sort of getting redistributed and I don't like it. I've always had a proper waist but it's getting a little indistinct these days!

I think I may have to tbh....won't go back on the sour dough rye bread though....

fark zippo bloody well done!
agree re portion. We were regularly eating 300 gms of meat each at a meal. Trimmed that right back to 150gm use leanest cuts. Eat less meat infact.
chickpeas. Baked falafel, fat free curry lentils as well simple v low fat eaten with pitta or rice. Fill you up for ages.
I have to have thick butter ony toast. So I don't eat toast. Unless there is a poached egg on it in which case I can forgo the butter.

Weigh your cereal portions. Dp was stunned to find he was eating 3-4 x a recommended portion of a healthy but dense dorset muesli. Farkin expensive and all.

Soups if time is short cogent garden low cal ones are often on bogof. They freeze. Carrot and coriander and plum tomato and basil are good, can have with pita or granary bread
I only ever have one slice of bread

I'm not even losing weight!!!!!!! But if I stopped the odd treat and booze I would. But am just under 10stone and weight is good.
am 5ft 6

We did gi eating as lifestyle change. Me more than dp. Come curry night I'll have starter portion of baked chicken tikka and salad. Maybe 1/4 of a naan

Dp will eat one whole jalfrezi. One whole pilau rice and one whole nan...
Takes time and committment to change properly.
worth it imo
right off to exercise!

You only start to burn the fat after 20 mins of cardio at the correct heart rate so you mabe need to bear in mind that 30 mins of tae bo is only 10 mins fatburning time, sadly.

Also,I'd have less bread and certainly cut carbs as far as poss after 5pm.

They are fine in moderation I'm sure - it's just I eat too many. I've had two today already!

if you cut down on meat, where do you get your protein from? I struggle getting enough protein.
