I hit my GW today, well, surprised it by a lb actually.

I have never ever ever stuck at a diet EVER so I am so incredibly proud of myself and ready to start my maintenance journey and feel quite excited by it.

just wanted to share as i have friends on their own journeys and don’t want to sound like a bragging bitch so other than my husband, haven’t shared with anyone!

Congratulatins! How did you do it?

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 18/09/2025 19:05

@Welltower thank you!

I used MFP, stuck to a target calorie allowance of 1400 per day and increased my steps to 10k per day. That’s literally it.

MissNixs · 18/09/2025 19:14

That’s brilliant. You should be very proud of yourself. Well done.

Antimimisti · 18/09/2025 19:15

Well done! I hope you will be treating yourself to some lovely clothes to show off your slim figure!

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 18/09/2025 19:27

@MissNixs @Antimimisti

Thank you! I have ordered some new bits although isn’t it typical I’ve done it just in time for jumper weather after spending most of the summer wanting to hide my wobbly bits 😂

Huge congratulations!
im on the same journey myself.
maintaining it is my worry/ goal.
what is mfp?

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 18/09/2025 19:34

@Hysterectomynext thank you!

MFP is my fitness pal.

I agree maintenance sounds scary to me too but I’ve decided because I’m in such a habit of tracking everything I eat to lose it, I am going to carry on at maintenance calories for as long as I feel I need it. It could be for a few months, a few years or until I’m 65! Who knows?! But I think for now I need it.

luckily I enjoy walking and have a good group of friends who I can go on walks with so I hope to keep the 10k steps up.

how are you doing?

OP posts:
CarRecall · 18/09/2025 19:40

Well done! I still have 1 stone 5lbs to go to hit my goal, can’t wait to get there though 😁

how are you doing?

I love walking too which is lucky. I also love swimming but haven’t been able to do this as regularly as I used to.
im using weight loss injections and it’s been really helpful but I did download the fitness pal. I didn’t pay for the full version though. It sounds like i probably should.
I was extremely unwell this year with weight related complications and I’m shocked by my own weight loss. It feels surreal. I’ve still got a way to go.

im walking, drinking lots of water. But mostly trying to limit calories to stay in a deficit. And as you say - this is the key.

socks1107 · 18/09/2025 19:43

Well done that’s awesome! Can I ask how long it took?
im nine months in and feels so slow….

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 18/09/2025 19:44

@CarRecall just keep going and you’ll get there! Amazingly I lost 3lbs in 10 days to hit my goal despite only losing 0.5-1lbs a week the rest of the time. It felt like my body just went ‘ah stuff it, go on then, you’re obviously not gonna stop’ 😂

OP posts:
ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 18/09/2025 19:55

@Hysterectomynext excellent, well done! I didn’t pay for premium, I don’t think you need to. Keep going ❤️ you’re doing fab!

@socks1107 it took about 16 weeks, I’ve lost 1st 10lbs. tbh I think slow is good. It means the habits have time to embed and it becomes your new normal. I think quick weight loss can result in just bouncing back for this reason. So long as you’re consistently losing you’re doing the right thing, 9 months is a long time to stick to something and you should be really proud of your dedication and consistency.

@ICanSpellConfusionWithaK oh my well done! Don’t see too many of these types of ‘I did it!’ posts! You’ve inspired me as I’ve been struggling quite badly recently. May I ask how old you are. I ask because I’m early 50s and in peri but would love to be able to achieve the level of weight loss you have in that timeframe.

Hysterectomynext · 18/09/2025 20:06

Thank you! I’m trying very hard and the weight loss is a fantastic reward.
I thought id need to pay for the full version of fitness pal so its good to know i can use it without.

I don’t want to sound mean- after all im paying for the injections and the gym- it’s just I’m trying hard to budget and not spend more on myself than is necessary

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 18/09/2025 20:33

@MoominMai ah thank you! It’s so hard at first but a few weeks in I feel like I found my groove, worked out what foods were right for me, had everything set up in MFP to tracking wasn’t much of a chore and the first few lbs were coming off which pushed me to keep going. I’m 40, early peri (periods are closer together, 32 days down to 25!) but I don’t think I’ve hit the full hormonal onslaught just yet where everything is that bit harder.

from what I’ve read (and spoken to my friends who are there though), the key is to incorporate weight training as well as it does help to balance the hormones a bit and raise BMR. Next in my list is weight training so I don’t end up piling the weight back on, but due to work I find it hard to fit that in along with the walking so I’ve prioritised walking first, mostly because I get to do that with my friends and it’s free!

best of luck on your journey. 0.5-1lb a week is slow but just keep putting one foot infront of the other. I didn’t let anything derail me, I even took my food scales on holiday with me! And weighed a slice of birthday cake! Straight back on it the next day.

@Hysterectomynext I think the paid for version is for people with certain nutritional goals or those who want to have easier tracking but if you’re eating mostly the same things every day then it becomes quite easy after a short period. And I agree, no point spending money you don’t need!

OP posts:
MoominMai · 18/09/2025 20:57

@ICanSpellConfusionWithaK oh wow - weighing your own birthday cake slice - that’s next level right there! 😅. Thank you for your detailed reply also.

Yes totally agree about the weight lifting. Also due to work it just seems too difficult and costly tbh to start taking weight lifting classes at a gym where I’ve never set foot in before so haven’t a clue about the equipment and so would really need a PT to know how to safely use the equipment. However, I’ve noticed there seem to be numerous YouTube videos focussed on weight lifting at home specifically for women in perimenopause so likely once I’ve got into a good rhythm of diet and walking then I’ll build that in 🙂. Seems more doable and sustainable doing the weights at home especially with the shorter and colder days drawing in.

Well congrats again, I have visions of you weighing up the different elements of your pending Xmas dinner now haha

All the best for your maintenance - and I dunno why as I don’t know you lol but your post has really cheered me up as to how your dedication paid off! ❤️

Ddakji · 18/09/2025 21:00

That’s super-fantastic, OP!! And very inspiring.

Brag away 🤣🤣🤣.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 19/09/2025 11:46

@MoominMai oh doing it at home is definitely the way forward, I’m hustling terrible and motivating myself. I will find any other job to do over exercising! But with the weather turning I’m going to have to make a promise to myself to weight train if I’m not walking.

haha I am hosting Xmas this year so I probably will tbh!

thank you that’s so lovely 🩷 and it’s wonderful to know that others can draw inspiration from it and see that it is doable. Breaking it down to something so simple as ‘I had a calorie target and I stuck to it, and I walked every day’ just makes it seem like it’s achievable, it doesn’t have to be gym 3x a week and special protein shakes and a specific diet, no carbs etc.

best of luck!!

@Ddakji 😍🩷
