75 Hard Challenge September - Starting today is anyone else?

Sammy900 · 01/09/2025 12:32

Hey

I'm starting the 75 Day Hard challenge today after eating and drinking crap all summer, if anyone fancies joining in? Join in if you are completing the soft version too, more the merrier :)

This should take me to mid Nov, but I might carry on and then have a break in Dec, lets see how we go

I know people have said they've struggled with the amount of water but I'm planning on drinking quite a bit whilst exercising to get some down so it's not so arduous for the rest of the day.

I've never completed this before so any tips welcome. I've bought a journal book from Amazon to fill in and a huge water bottle...but think a gallon equates to 8 pints / 4.54 litres.

The diet I will be following will be FODMAP - but I'm skipping the elimination of all things part as I've already been through this, so re-joining where I left off.

I'm not a fan of self help style books and find them a bit cheesy so will be reading anything else, does it have to be non-fiction? If it HAS to be self help, could that include say books about nature? History of woodlands, etc

I want to follow the rules otherwise if I start making little exceptions before you know I'll be ordering a take away, so I'm all in, wish me luck!

“but think a gallon equates to 8 pints / 4.54 litres.”

I’m almost certain this refers to a US gallon - 3.7something litres (and already a lot of water!)
Take care not to overdo it. I’m not taking part but thought this an important point to raise, no need to make it harder than it needs to be and inadvertently do harm to yourself!

Aaaah yes I've just read that actually in the book I've got - It says 3.8 Liters, So is a UK Litre the same measurement as a US Liter? Ha ..off to google. That would be better than 8 pints a day!

So a US and UK litre are the same, fab so it's 3.8 litres / 6.6 pints. I'll edit it

You are planning to drink 3.8 litres of water a day? I would definitely lose weight with this after all my trips to the toilet, there would be no time to eat.

xB1991x · 01/09/2025 15:49

Ohh ill join you! I started last week though😊, i’m logging my food on my fitness pal, limiting myself to 1500 calories a day to loose 1lb a week. Already feel de-bloated 1 week in but lets see how I get on x bloody hard isnt it 🫣

Sammy900 · 01/09/2025 16:56

Hey welcome. Yes I freaked myself out a bit as necked a load of water earlier but then after reading a bit more I realised that was a silly move and have since been trying to eat things salty 😖

I think I'm going to let day one be tomorrow now as I feel more prepared and ready to start the whole day knowing more and ready to pace my water intake properly...I know it seems like loads but I think if spaced out over 14 hours should be fine (she says). I'm usually always dehydrated so should notice a difference. Do you feel any different energy wise, clearer skin?

Are you doing a work out in the morning and then evening?

I’m working out in the evening just once, but I have two active little children so most of the morning is chasing them around a soft
play, walking into town with them and back. I’ve struggled with 2.5 litres of water tbh the last week since starting this diet. If it was 4l of tea I would be fine, ha! I’m going to give 3.5l of water a go tomorrow. The really large flasks you can pick up on Amazon ect with the times on the side are helpful x

Sammy900 · 01/09/2025 17:19

Ahh yes chasing after little ones definitely counts! I might walk to work in the morning and then it might not feel like exercise overload. I've bought a new big water bottle with the times on and then didn't use it today! Ooops will start anew tomorrow without drowning myself.

Ha true I was thinking that I can drink tea all day and it's not an issue, or if on a night out but water seems like a chore..I can't give up and replace my coffee though that's got to stay

I keep toying with the idea of trying this. However, the water thing just doesn't make sense to me. Why shouldn't water with electrolytes count? Why shouldn't herbal tea count? I know someone who nearly died from drinking too much water so I'm a bit cautious.

Yeah there are some parts I don't understand why it's so strict and doesn't give any room for weight and build differences...but giving it a go nevertheless

Scary that you know someone who nearly died from drinking too much water, do you know any more details? like how much and why? (Hopefully not doing this diet!)

I understand the scepticism with challenges like this but we know increased water reduces toxins in the body for clearer skin and aids weight loss by boosting metabolism, I’m just trying using some of them principles but at a level that suits me. And then combined with a traditional diet.

How did you get on yesterday OP @Sammy900? I managed 3l plus a couple of cups of tea. I must admit all the extra water is making me feel less hungry.

Nothing to do with this challenge fortunately! It was a friends husband. Initially he was just thirsty then it became a habit and he was drinking more and more (don't know exact quantity). He had a couple of small seizures, went to a&e and had a huge seizure in the middle of a&e...so lucky it happened there and he got immediate help. Was very unwell in hospital for ages. It's made me cautious. I think I will try the challenge at some point but will include electrolytes in the overall water total as that seems more sensible to me

Sammy900 · 03/09/2025 19:44

I’m taking an electrolyte tablet and making sure I’m really pacing myself over the longest time possible bar sleeping, so including my nighttime glass of water I usually have and have only had two cups of coffee in addition to the water today so will prob feel like drinking less of other things

I usually have a glass of water each meal time so that doesn’t feel strange either and I seem to be getting through it ok

its early days yet though

Hey

yeah I’m feeling fuller! Or each time I eat I’m getting full quicker and tmi but I have been using the toilet a lot! More than usual which I’m glad about as I usually have bad guts - so the extra water seems to be helping me at the moment

I ended up walking home in the rain and arrived 15 mins too short of the time so walked round the block wet through until it was 45 mins - feeling like rocky 😂

how’s your day been?

Arhh good job! despite the rain all day I feel like it’s still relatively warm so easier for me to keep drinking. It will get harder soon when gets colder 🫣

3l of water for me again and just 1 evening workout. My twins go back to nursery tomorrow so I’m going to try up the exercise to 2 sessions as much as possible.

Sammy900 · 05/09/2025 06:45

Day 4 here we come

Weirdly it's not the water that's a huge issue for me as I thought it would be, it's fitting the workouts in especially on a work day...I had such a long day yesterday and didn't have time for hardly any free down time, so its probably not a bad thing I'm just not used to it.

I'm gonna have to sort my timings out. I really need to do a workout in the morning before the day starts otherwise I'm trying to fit two in later on (at separate times) and then getting to bed late, weekend and days off won't be a problem it's just fitting it around work
