Perimenopause - suddenly cannot shift a pound

I’ve been lucky, always slim, usually between 8.5 and 9 stones with a healthy diet but generally able to eat what I want.

if my weight ever crept higher than that I’d just cut down for a few weeks, the extra few pounds would quickly come off

but suddenly at 46 it’s not working. I’ve been cutting down for around 6 weeks, and nothing has changed. My stomach is anything is more bloated.

ive read loads of threads so i know how common this is, just looking for solidarity really !

I need to cut back calories more and up my exercise if I can - I just have to accept it going to be so much harder that in the past 😔

It is harder, but not impossible!
Work out your TDEE and reduce the maintenance calories by 20% to find your weight loss calorie target. Weigh and log food/drink carefully on My Fitness Pal or similar so you can track properly, you’ll soon find out where you are going wrong.
Dont add exercise to MFP though or it gives you the calories back to eat, making weight loss impossible!

Goodness , according to TDEE I need 1,000 calories a day to lose weight, that’s focussing my mind somewhat …!

It will go up for maintenance once you are at target weight. I think my weight loss calories were 1,300 but I ate between 1,300-1,500 and just took a little longer. I felt it was better to take longer than to crash out and fail.

it’s frightening how many less calories we need once we get to a certain age!
