Yes I’ve done the classic- left it til a week before a wedding (not mine!!) and I’m a fat old mess. Not really but I feeL like it - and I know I’d feel a bit better in my outfit if I could have a beat the bloat good old fashioned week of dieting. In previous times I have lost weight at the start of diets and whilst I know it’s “water weight” etc it would probably make me feel a bit better about it all.

so please hit me with your tried and tested one week wonders… not the cabbage soup diet lol.

Low carbing will get rid of the bloat and some water weight.

No more than 20g of carbs a day.

Intermittent fasting might help as well. So, just black coffee or tea until, say, 12pm. Then two low carb meals. Stop eating by 8pm.

@DiamondThrone thankmyou. You’re right that low carb would be a great idea. Sadly though it works for me it always ends up giving me UTI symptoms so I suspect I’m one of the people who’d develop kidney stones etc as a result… but intermittent fasting might be a good idea actually. Thank you!!

Can you just eat veg? If I switch to eating roasted portobello mushrooms, roasted courgettes, cauliflower and steamed greens (microwave) I can fill my plate but lose 4 lbs in a week. If you feel weak add smoked haddock or any fish, tinned or fresh or chicken no skin. Also haircut and do your nails, body scrub to boost your morale.

Meal replacements like huel? Boring as fuck but you'll get your nutrients. Lots and lots of water.

Nothing ultra processed, no sugar. That will sort bloat.
Meat /fish, veg/salad and Greek yougurt with berries or cinnamon if you need something sweeter. Lots of water.

Thank you all- great ideas. I was thinking way back in ye olden days I had great results from
rosemary connley classes and the first two weeks were like 1200cals nothing above 10% fat? So maybe veggies and non UPF for the bloat… and some protein stuff too? Will get onto chat GPT and see if they can suggest some meals… and also a fab tip re hair and skin!! Thank you

Veg tray bakes are easy, chuck in onion, garlic, tomatoes, celeriac or jersey royal potatoes (to protect against too low carb) or sweet potato, yellow and red peppers, all delicious. Mediterranean diet works well for me, maybe give it a go.

I do sympathise, we had a big fancy once in a lifetime holiday a couple of years ago, I swore I would lose 2 stone but didn’t. I waddled around in 3 kaftan type dresses on rotation but I didn’t let it spoil the trip. The holiday photos are awful, I was using the kids and palm trees to block half my body 😂. I have lost the weight now and it’s so nice to pull on a dress or jeans and not worry.

That’s great to hear @Sedgwick that you’re at a happy weight for you now. I don’t want to “lose weight” as my goal, but to get healthier- a healthy BMI, stronger in terms of bone strength and muscles etc through exercise etc. But so far this year it’s been one thing after another and one excuse leads to another too. It’s never “the right time”… but it’s good to hear it can be done and I could be happy with myself!

The French Women don’t get Fat book suggests the “magical leek soup” for a couple of days. I’ve done this a few times when I’ve been eating too much crap. I suspect it acts as a mild diuretic to deal with some of the bloat and eating nothing but watery soup for a couple of days shrinks your stomach a bit so you don’t want to eat much for a few days after. I’ve always lost a good few pounds this way and it has kickstarted a period of better eating for me.
