Periods question - people who have had bariatric surgery

Hi,

Sorry not the greatest topic and hard to explain, but all the documentaries watched about weight loss surgeries the monthlies are never mentioned.

With all the flight of the weight loss injections creating a baby boom, needing alternative contraception through to possible menopause interruptions etc it has left me wondering what happens to people who’ve had surgery. Can their periods be affected?

I get periods can disappear if you loss a huge amount of weight whether you’ve had surgery or be on the injection medication but surely bariatric patients may have experienced the same media shouts/attention.

Sorry again I am just so curious.

Mine never changed one jot. I would imagine its different for different people

Ah cool I just don’t know if it’s me being daft anyway with random thoughts.

Last weekend I had a short period that arrived late. Today I’ve had a couple of signs of ovulation which makes me wonder if the next period will turn up just about earlier. I accept there are loads of causes for me (on the injections and off HRT) and I’m a bit stuck what I can do so I’d better just suck it up as I don’t want a coil back.

Its not daft, losing a lot of weight, not sure how much you need to lose, will obviously affect how your hormones function for you and different tools (WLI, WLS) will have an effect on that as well.
