I'm 46, mother of 4, work full time, peri menopausal, on HRT, nearly 15 stone, I was going to start weight loss injections, but after some research and reading about upset tummies, increased anxiety, I bottled out. But, I need to do something. I have tried SW, 5:2, 16:8, Slimfast, CC, but there's so much conflicting advice, I don't know where to start, anyone in a similar situation to me, and had success, how did you achieve it?

47yo mother of 3 (although two away at university) one dog, not peri and looking for full time work, decided last Tuesday enough is enough. I am as fat as I was at nine months pregnant and now busting out of size 18s 🥴

Last Tuesday I decided I’d had enough so weighed myself and I am a whopping 15st 1lb. It is entirely my fault I am a greedy pig.

I started there and then and have said goodbye to biscuits chocolate cake wine and pizza. I will have them again one day, just not in the foreseeable future. I have walked nearly 15,000 steps every day (today is only day six) and so far so good. I’ve ordered a water bottle with a straw on Amazon which has surprisingly helped me to increase my water intake. I’m eating natural yogurt with plain granola and berries for breakfast, a sandwich made with whole grain bread for lunch with a piece of fruit and a bag of sunbites, a vegetable omelette or a baked potato with tuna and salad for dinner, or home made spag bol/chicken curry etc. I haven’t felt like snacking between meals but if I’m peckish I’ll eat an apple or some almonds.

There are a mind boggling number of options for losing weight I quickly learned I could gain another stone before I’ve found the “right one” for me so why not just make a start and cut out the crap. I would never have the jabs.

I wish I had started this ages ago I’ve had my head in the sand for so long but now I’ve started I don’t know what I was so afraid of. I should never have let it get this far. I’ve also downloaded a useful app called Happy Scale; you can break your goal down into smaller steps which for me is really helpful.

Good luck with whatever method you decide on OP, getting started is the hardest part!

Thank you @theyregonnaknow for your reply, we're in a very similar situation, I just find it overwhelming. I have had success with 5:2 previously, but then you read you shouldn't fast in perimenopause. Maybe I should stop overthinking it, and go back to basics!

Very overwhelming! Which is why breaking it down into smaller steps helps, even half stone milestones seem overwhelming at this age as it’s harder, so I’ve chosen 5lb mini goals 😊 I’ve also read lots of posts on here from ladies who’ve lost 3/4stone plus to see what advice they give or how losing that much weight has helped them and it’s been a revelation so that’s really motivating.

I heard a story last week on the Jeremy Vine show about a man who got stuck in a turnstile and that was his “moment”, he’d gone on to lose 17 stone and his advice was “just take it one day at a time, and don’t let one bad day turn into a bad week/month/year”. That struck a chord with me so now I’m trying to adopt the same mentality. Just one day has become my new mantra 😊

I was started on mounjaro for type 2 diabetes. I have no idea what the side effects could be as I don’t read too deeply into it . As a retired nurse I’m sure I’d notice if the injection was having any adverse effects. I’ve now been on it six months and have lost just over 3 stones . When I lose another 2 pounds I will be overweight instead of obese which I have been for the past 10 years . I think there are far more people on mounjaro without any side effects than all those on the scare mongering Mumsnet posts will have you believe.
Try mounjaro for yourself , you might be pleasantly surprised.

Similar position to you op, 49 peri but no HRT.

I got down from 18 stone to 15 but haven't weighed myself since Feb as too scared and feel it may make me spiral. I have been massive since I was about 30 years old. I love food and binge food it is my comfort.

I did calorie counting but have been off the rails with it, I plotted everything on fat secret app.

Today is going to be better and I will eat better for health.
