Addressing regain early on

been lurking around for a while.

Lost a lot of weight over a couple of years and really got into resistance training and focusing on a more athletic physique rather than size/slimness. Never really hit my original goal (63kg) mostly as it started seeming pointless - it was only 2kg less than my lowest weight (65kg) and both in healthy range anyway so all was good and I maintained a while, but taken my eye off the ball for 8 weeks with big life upheaval and 3kg in regain!

My priorities and mindset have changed from when I was obese so my first thought this time was not eat less, it was move more because for me, a big motivator is to feel good from the exercise and the effort I’ve put in I will be more inclined to eat well

This is the first big hurdle I’ve faced with regain and I want to break out of the weight loss cycle - in the past I would usually regain all of it, and more

I’m looking for some motivation to break free of the weight regain cycle ☺️

Do you still enjoy the exercises you are doing? I think that’s the most important part, I have been training regularly for four years and what keeps me at it is that I really enjoy the “time under tension” 😅.

@CortieTat Yes I am enjoying it but I need to find time to add in some form of cardio, which I don’t really like at all but is most effective for weight control!

I am doing the iron Caroline Girvan series in my little home gym, also going to weekly yoga and Pilates classes. This doesn’t leave much time for getting my steps in what with work and family life too.

I like the feeling of being stretched so I also like time under tension and seeing how much extension I can get

I’ve eaten well the last week. I’m being mindful of just eating whole foods and not junk foods and portion control but not calorie counting right now - if I have to go back to that I will, but I am going to see if I can get back to goal weight without it

Just got to get motivated for stomping the streets? Urgh 😂

I have lost a little bit of weight and upped my exercise a lot but I did have to to back to calorie counting. Still 2kg to go to get back to my original weight which is not much but I have been quite down about it - nervous of slipping back into old habits

The other struggle is my partner. He eats a lot, and he eats a lot of junk food. I can hear the jangle of that biscuit tin going over and over. He constantly keeps buying new biscuits to fill it. I hate what he buys/feeds the kids! He also just eats it all so I think it’s an excuse. I bought some cheap treat choc ices for the kids to enjoy as a treat on the weekend, he eats one last night and complains it’s ’not thick enough chocolate’. It wasn’t for him?

Last night the kids were hungry - he gave them biscuits. Packed lunch at school - chocolate spread sandwiches and crisps. Breakfast - gimmicky sugary laden cereal. I am trying to do the shopping more than him so the whole house isn’t just full of crap all the time.

He has gained a lot of weight after we lost weight a couple of years ago, so when he asks me why I am feeling a bit down and I say I am worried I have slipped in my habits he doesn’t want to hear it because it touches a nerve.

I lost four stone. Started going to the gym. In the same as u prefer resistance training and hate cardio. I made the compromise to myself I would do just ten mins at the end of my time at the gym and so far it seems to be working.

I also put on some weight recently. For years I would have probably just ignored it and carried on putting it on and given up but I paid for the gym a year up front and I’m to tight to not use it 😂

I have to stand on the scales everyday. Otherwise I put my head in the sand about how much I am eating and I’m dammed if I’m going to waste the three years it took me to take it off.

Doornon · 11/06/2025 21:28

Yes I also have to weigh every day and for sure I am not wasting the time it took I agree ☺️

good luck with your goals too

The partner thing is hard. I honestly don’t know what I would do if they were otherwise a good partner and father. I would definitely have a serious conversation about children’s food.

I do try to talk to him and he is a very good guy but he has driven me crazy all day talking about food and trying to get me to eat a lot of food. He really has an issue

He took me out for lunch for a celebration which was nice and reasonable as I chose sensibly but then he went and bought cakes and alcohol afterwards which were expensive, and his treat so I couldn’t really complain. He then later wanted a chippy tea! Which I agreed because he had already told the kids, so what can I say? I had less of a portion but then he went to the shop and bought another cake! and is stuffing his face with it I ended up leaving the room, something about all this food and eating just annoys me. I now feel so bloated and all I’ve done is follow him around eating all day and now it’s 9pm and he’s still eating! I am trying so hard to be good and he knows this so it’s frustrating. I have my own autonomy all week but if I don’t want to indulge he calls me boring
