Weekend stupidity

Does anyone else feel absolutely ridiculous keeping on track in the week and then behaving stupidly at the weekend? Every weekend.
I'm 57, about a stone overweight, healthy ish eater and then Friday hits, the wine is opened and it all goes to pot until Monday morning. Does anyone else relate?
Intellectually I know that if I just didn't open the wine on Fri then I could do so much better, but I still just repeat and regret every week.

I totally relate to this and drive myself mad keep doing the same thing every weekend! However, so far this weekend I’ve managed to abstain and I’m hoping it will give me the impetus to stick with it. Would be good to finally shift these last 7lbs that are all hanging around my stomach.

Does calorie counting help? I'm using MJ at the moment and also MFP to track calories. I'm finding if I limit my calories during the weekend days, I can binge on wine and nice food over the weekend and still be in deficit. It feels like complete indulgence... But I've got control over it.

Currently sitting here drinking my 3rd glass (tonight) of wine, from the bottle I’ve had to myself, opened yesterday after 2 glasses at the pub.

I loath myself right now!! Every weekend the same thing happens. When I drink wine I then eat crap!

Weekendregret · 10/05/2025 21:42

@Openthisdoor Well done on abstaining!
Yep, always those last few pounds around the stomach! I started weighing every day a while back so I can track the data. All it tells me is that I just need to reign in the weekend excess, yet I just don't. Honestly ridiculous.

@FknOmniShambles maybe? Not something I've ever thought about. In the week, I keep to a 18/6 ish eating window. Tend to walk in the morning, usually 5 miles or so, have a sandwich then an evening meal. Healthy ish, home cooked, not particularly processed. Good food, no snacks, tons of water ect. Then friday hits and all good intentions out the window. That's mainly because of the wine and the snacking that follows. It's very much a pattern of behaviour that's out of control and I need to figure out.
@Potnoodly I hear you! Just the same but multiple by several glasses/bottles

@Weekendregret instead of buying normal sized bottles of wine for eg could you just buy yourself a couple of the small bottles on a Friday to enjoy over the weekend. It’s what I do when I’m in the Uk as I’m not a big drinker but I do enjoy a glass of wine on holiday. Sometimes I’ll even just get a gin and tonic that comes in a tin. Simple pleasures but nice ones.

henlake7 · 10/05/2025 23:02

Let me know if you manage to get round it, I'd love to know!
Happens in the week for me. I do two nightshifts and don't really sleep during the days. Stress and sleep deprivation is a terrible combo if you don't want to stuff your face!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/05/2025 07:24

Yes. It’s very eye opening if I actually count my calories over a weekend, it pretty much swallows up any deficit I have achieved in the week. Plus I find the wine/ carbs even if I’m in deficit, cause bloating, water retention, poor sleep, etc which skews the scales. I can weigh 7+ lbs heavier on a Monday morning, and it lingers longer as I’m getting older. In all in just gives me these huge swings from max to minimum weight and overall I lose about 1/2 a pound a week which is depressingly slow 🤣

Weekendregret · 11/05/2025 08:10

@thenewaveragebear1983 snap to all of that. With me, the answer would be not to drink the alcohol because it all goes haywire after that. I don't think I'm ever going to be one of those people that can be satisfied with half a glass. DH is the same and looks forward to the weekend, starting on Friday with the wine, especially now it's nice to sit outside on an evening. Guess I just have to put my big girl pants on and make a choice!

Same with the one glass. I’ve just been reading a thread in the exercise topic where OP is asking how to shift her belly - Again it comes down to alcohol. One poster has said that she has a glass of wine a month… 😄 why bother?! Which is why I guess for me it’s easier to abstain.

Must say I have woken feeling rather virtuous this morning - 30 mins weights done and will go for a lovely long walk in this glorious weather. Would be good though to have some of you lovely lot to join me and keep each other on the straight and narrow!

Weekendregret · 11/05/2025 11:16

Having finished off an almond croissant that DH appeared with ( part of the whole treating weekends as a special occasion problem).
Then taking mince out of the freezer to make big bowl of spaghetti & meatballs, inspired by watching Nonnas last night, which will of course have a large glass of white in the sauce so we'll be finishing that off whilst the sauce is simmering and then opening a good bottle of red to enjoy with the pasta.
So all that is running through my head while pondering how I can lose this weight. Sigh.
@Openthisdoor yes, I'd like to join you but can't promise straight & narrow. Slightly wobbly perhaps 😂

I actually did give up drinking from 1st Jan, I did 115 days I think. Now back to having a couple of glasses once a week, but i am getting rotten hangovers and of course all the bloating and general apathy for anything healthy 🤣

Weekendregret · 11/05/2025 11:55

@thenewaveragebear1983 yes I've done that a few times, amazingly a few years ago I did five months or so. Felt so blooming virtuous that I ate my weight in sugar & carbs most weekends.
Anyway, knowing myself, knowing that I need to have a long term solution rather than a quick fix, I'm going to concentrate on remembering that weekends are not special occasions and start a thread on that. Wish me luck!
