Decided to go to the GP this morning and considering I have put 2kilos on since October and my BMI is now 33 I have asked for medicines. So starting Orlistat on Wednesday. She asked me if I was sure to do it but I replied that I work from home hahah so I am ready for it.
Doe anyone still use Orlistat considering you all look like using injections?

Yes I’ve had it.. just be prepared especially if you have too much fatty food !

i personally would use it only for few days to kick start everything and then perhaps on and off when needed

I went on Orlistat last year and it really worked well for me (lost over a stone in about 6 weeks). You can only have 15g of fat per meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) so you really have to be careful with what you eat otherwise there are side effects which aren't very nice as your body will want to expell the fat.

I'd recommend trying them as its a cheaper alternative to the injections but I did find it so hard to find foods I could eat so did eventually come off (plus i had to have my appendix out so needed to eat easier meals). If you can sit down and plan your dinners you'll be fine. There's a really good Orlistat Facebook group too where people post their dinners so you can get some nice recipes off there 🥰 https://www.facebook.com/groups/820754937945579/?ref=share

If you wanted to say go on holiday or go for a nice meal and not have to stick to the 15g fat per meal, I would suggest coming off them 5 days before you go away and then start them again 5 days after just so you won't have any side effects xx

Wow, a stone in 6 weeks would be wonderful! How did you do it?

I worked out my calorie deficit using the TDEE calculator and literally just stuck to foods I knew that were safe, cut out butter, cheese, cream, mayo and oil as those are the big ones that will bring your fat limit up. ate mainly a peice of lean meat and salad mostly, for lunches I would have ham salad pitta Breads with salad cream.

it can get a bit difficult but I would substitute things like no mayo (which was hard as i love mayo) but id have salad cream or ketchup instead. Definitely get yourself some digital weighing scales and id recommend downloading and buying the monthly subscription of nutracheck so you can work out how much calories and fat will be in your meals.

also I got my steps in and did cardio at the gym 🥰

you've got this! Definitely join that Facebook group if you have Facebook as people eat alot better and nicer meals on there than I did 🤣 plus it's fab for support xx

Three weeks and 2 days and I have lost 3 kilos. Not great, i wish it was more but at least it is going in the right direction.

@00Namechange00 3 KG is brilliant though! you dont want to lose too much too quickly otherwise your skin cant catch up! thats just over 2lb a week which is fabulous weightloss 🩷

Cheddarcheeseandsodabread · 26/10/2025 14:52

@00Namechange00 Are you still using the Orlistat and how are you getting on?

I'm starting on Monday 3rd Nov (I'm away at the moment) and am hopeful that it will do the business!

FlyHighLikeABird · 07/01/2026 23:20

I'm interested to know too, as I can't tolerate weight loss injections and so am looking at alternatives, I'm steady where I am at the moment, but 3kg in a short amount of time is a lot! I'd be happy with that as a starting point.
