I am 45 and 5ft 2". I have been a size 6/8 for most of my adult life. I put on about a stone in lockdown. Managed to lose it (largely through stress) for my wedding a couple of years ago, and have since piled it back on, mainly through too much cheese and wine and a love of cooking/feeding other people. I eat mostly low carb and Mediterranean style but have become a bit more lax, I don't really snack and do a fair amount of exercise (including strength training) I'm now more a size 10 with a small spare tyre and a large chest. I detest my body like this. On a short, small frame, 1 stone is a lot and really shows. Yesterday I didn't even want to leave the house with my husband to go for a drink in the sun as I thought I looked hideous. Today it all changes. I have started working with an online wellness/fitness coach recently and she said something this morning that made me stop and think - how sad it is that people literally don't want to be in photo's with their families because of their weight. This is me. I hate that I am so hard on myself because of my size and speak to myself in a way I'd never speak to anyone else. I hate that for the last few years every nice thing we've done, has always had the niggling thought that I'd enjoy it more if I were a stone lighter. I know I have lots of 'mind work' to do aorund my relationship with my weight (hence the coach) but on the physical front today is re-set. Binning the alcohol, more strict with the carbs and cheese. I aim to lose 7lbs in the next 4/5 weeks. Posting here for accountability really. Anyone else having a 're-set' today? Good luck!

My fat loss coach is running a free 4 day introductory fat loss programme this week. First coaching was 6am this morning but you can watch it on replay and then 6am every day until Thursday. it's on her Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thesindybond , and Instagram (I think that's 'thesindybond'.

It sounds to me like you need to work on a more realistic and more positive sense of self as much if not more than you need to work on your weight.

Good luck!

@JamieCannister thank you for your concern but it is very much unwarrranted.

Hi @Chubbybetty how did today go for you?

MarmiteWine · 02/06/2025 21:00

Hi everyone, still going pretty well here. I didn't go to the party at the weekend so have managed to stay more or less on track, weighing in this morning at 2.2lb lighter than last Monday.

I've nothing planned that should cause any problems this week, but will need to restock on veggies.

Hope everything is going smoothly for everyone else.

Autumnleaves82 · 02/06/2025 21:35

@MarmiteWine and @Valkyrie3 thank you for the meal ideas a few days ago (sorry for the delayed reply).

Welcome @Rachey28 Well done for your progress so far. What’s your strategy for losing weight?

Welcome @distinctpossibility

@Chubbybetty I came off Facebook a couple of years ago. Maybe you could report back here if your fat loss coach gives any helpful advice/tips?

After thinking I’d lost a pound last week, the scales have been showing 8st12 again the last couple of days. So, I’m still the same as when we started this thread (I really feel my efforts deserve a loss!).

Chubbybetty · 03/06/2025 12:37

@Autumnleaves82 the challenge this week is for people completely new to fat loss coaching (but her current members can join in as part of our membership so I figured I may as well join these sessions too) so she's not saying anything that's new to me. Her paid programme that I'm in is all about building healthy habits, so she focuses on overall activity, weight training, steps, water intake, fibre, protein and being in calorie defecit, as well as visions/goals, mindfulness and self-development. This week is very basic stuff related just to fat loss though.

@GrazeConcern yesterday was Ok thanks, and so far so good today. Cottage cheese, chicken and cucumber for lunch in a while and will get out and walk if the rain stops. No workout this morning as I leave home too early but may do it when I get home later. We're thinking about booking a short break/city break to somewhere warm at the end of this month so exra incentive right there 😊. How is it going with you post-holiday?

Swearwolf · 04/06/2025 09:35

I’m really struggling! Dropped off the thread for a bit as life got chaotic - school holidays, extra events happening every weekend, sickness bug, you name it. I don’t think I’ve been eating or drinking that badly but I took my eye off the ball for a couple of weeks and have gained 1.5kg!!! I’m absolutely gutted, it takes me such a long time to lose that much and it’s come back on in no time at all. I’m trying to get back on it and make time for exercise again, I’d dropped right down to a couple of times a week, but it just feels like a constant uphill battle.

Mummy321 · 04/06/2025 13:46

It seems so easy to put on. I lost 2 pounds last week, have put back on 1.5 with a couple glasses of wine and a pudding! my goal of 10 pounds in 7 weeks doesn’t sound much but I am starting to doubt myself .

I also think my cycle makes it hard for me to not eat lots, am ravenous.

i did try a new bikini on last night and loved it, so am focussed on trying to look good in that. I’m good 95% of the time with my food and exercise most days…. Maybe it will just come together ?!

MarmiteWine · 05/06/2025 16:41

Keep going @Swearwolf and @Mummy321 and anyone else who's struggling!

I'm still losing steadily - 12lb off since 5 May - but having to fight today to resist the lure of the chocolate bars in my locker at work. I just need to get through the next 45 minutes or so.

I've just realised that the latest 1lb loss brings my BMI below 35 if I calculate it with my height as 5' 4.5" or 5' 5" (which is what the machine at work puts me as) instead of the 5' 4" I've got set up in the Nutracheck app. For some reason it feels like cheating to change it in the app 🤣

tigerbear · 05/06/2025 18:41

@Swearwolf i could have written your post word for word! I’ve also not been on the thread for about 2 weeks, and have totally fallen off the wagon 😩
I’ve put on the 4lb I’d lost, plus a bit more. Zero exercise in the last 2 weeks, plus loads of alcohol and takeaways, and my stomach is massive!!!

so upset and angry with myself, especially as I’d been making quite progress, and bought myself some nice new clothes in smaller sizes.

Really panicking about holiday now, as only 6 weeks to go 😬

@MarmiteWine 12lb loss is absolutely amazing, well done!!

Chubbybetty · 06/06/2025 07:29

Well done @MarmiteWine , fantastic progress. @tigerbear today is a new day! After stalling for ages I'm 2lb down this week so 8st 12 (again!). 5 weeks unti two big events - really want a few more lbs off by then. Aiming not to do the weekend derail this weekend.

OP posts:
tigerbear · 06/06/2025 07:48

@Chubbybetty 2lb down is great! Yay!
Absolutely agree re trying not to derail over the weekend. Last weekend was absolutely shocking, with LOTS of alcohol, takeaways etc, so will try to stay off all that over the next few days.
What I’m really missing is the exercise, and everything has gone very wobbly again 😬

Swearwolf · 06/06/2025 08:33

I’m trying to get back on it - off for a small run after school drop off today. The more I exercise, the less I want to eat rubbish, so I just need to push through.

Valkyrie3 · 06/06/2025 20:34

Well done on the weight losses, everyone. I was down by half a pound this morning. Not as much as I would have liked but it’s in the right direction. Progress is slow for me. Keep meaning to up the exercise but not doing do. I suspect this is what is making the progress slow 😖

Rachey28 · 07/06/2025 11:44

Hi ladies, how is everyone?

I've neglected my exercise this week. Just been on the treadmill now and feeling much better. Down to 9st3lb now - interim target of 8st 13lb is feeling achievable now.

I'm seeing friends today and going to be sensible (well try to be) with my wine intake and I'm taking a fruit platter to break up the cheese and carbs!

Swearwolf · 08/06/2025 10:58

That’s great both of you!

I did plenty of exercise this week so I’m feeling ok, even though it isn’t showing on the scales. I need to stop weighing myself for a bit - I was another 0.6kg up this morning, then weighed myself again after my run and I was 0.8kg lighter than before. So much is water weight!

I’m away for work later this week, which could go either way. On the one hand I will be out of routine and with less time and energy for exercise, and I’ll be eating out every day. On the other, I’ll be on my feet all day and away from the bad habits I was slipping into here. I’m taking my gym stuff anyway, but I do tend to gain weight while I’m away so I’m just bracing myself for it.

GrazeConcern · 08/06/2025 22:12

Hi everyone, I’m going to have a reset. I really didn’t want to weigh as I don’t really care about numbers on the scales, I just want to lose 1-2 inches from waist:hips/thighs. But the inch loss is too slow and hard to measure to keep me on track. From tomorrow will start daily weighing and keeping fairly low calories mon-Thurs with a few more at weekends. Had a bad weekend food wise but good exercise wise!

DurhamDurham · 09/06/2025 07:49

Good morning everyone. Catching up on all the posts, some great losses and lots of determination to get back on it for others.
I’ve definitely lost some weight, I had a jumpsuit on at the weekend which was tight when I was on holiday in Jan and it looked much better in Saturday.
I am curious how many lbs I’ve lost but I can’t go down that road again.
I’m trying to eat one meal a day all week and then two on a weekend. Saturday we had berries and Greek yoghurt for breakfast and yesterday we had bacon and eggs. Both v tasty. We had salmon, noodles and stir fry veg for dinner last night and I’m having nothing until tonight’s dinner which is basa fish with veg and roast new potatoes.
I’m doing terrible exercise wise but I danced for about four hours to Saturday so I’m going to include that 😁

Have a good week!

Chubbybetty · 11/06/2025 09:13

Morning all. I've been doing some reading around longer fasts, for health as well as fat loss reasons. Has anyone done an extended fast and can share your experience please? I'm attempting a 36 hour water fast currently (8pm Tuesday night, until 8am Thursday morning). However my husband just gave me a cup of tea with milk in and I drank it without thinking. Will carry on though. Wish me luck!

OP posts:
DurhamDurham · 11/06/2025 09:23

I’ve not done a fast as long as that but I regularly do 24 hour fasts. I find them easy as it’s basically just one meal a day. I sometimes eat at 4pm and push the next days to 7pm so that’s 27 hours.
I might be incorrect but I don’t think you need to worry about that little bit of milk, you haven’t broken your fast if it’s under 50 calories. Sure I read that somewhere.

MarmiteWine · 11/06/2025 10:09

@Chubbybetty I've no experience with long fasts, sorry. I ended up with gastritis last year when I tried to do OMAD. This may have just been coincidence but I'm not keen to repeat the experience.

All is going well here with my usual 2 meals a day regime. Yesterday I hit my first goal of 1 stone lost, with 4 stone to go to get into the "healthy" BMI range. I'm noticing the difference now in how some clothes fit. My gym leggings have a lot more room, and my high-waisted pair now almost come up to my bust! My shirt sleeves are longer too 😁

I'm going out for a walk with a friend today. We're stopping to buy a supermarket picnic en route so I'm not sure yet what I'll be eating whilst out. I'm planning Tideford Thai Green Vegetable soup with king prawns for tea later to mitigate any extra carbs at lunchtime.

@DurhamDurham well done on the better-fitting jumpsuit! It's been a very long time since I was a "healthy" weight, but I do think that judging weight by the fit of your clothes can be a better approach than the scales. Oh, and 4 hours of dancing definitely counts on the exercise front!

@GrazeConcern I hope a short period of weighing reassures you that things are moving along and you see some reduction in inches soon too.

@Swearwolf you're so right about the water weight! After I've been off-track I can lose 4-5 lbs of "bloat" in 2-3 days of eating healthily.

GrazeConcern · 11/06/2025 21:41

@Chubbybetty I have sometimes found doing a fast to get kickstarted very effective, in fact if I can find a good day to do one I might even try it!

Scales in, still stubbornly high, but hopefully I can make progress now with daily weighing and the happy scale app. Need to lose 4-5kg overall I think.
