Weight loss whilst on holiday, how do you manage that?

Have been on a weight loss journey for the past 2 months, have very slowly lost 2.5 kg and still a few to go. I am not on a super restrictive regime but consuming about 1600 kcal a day, which is fairly sustainable for me on an every day basis.

The thing is that I am about to fly to Spain and spend the next 7 days there. I know from experience that every time I go on holiday I let myself go as I want to savour all the delicious local food and generally enjoy myself but this means that I not only gain weight but also lose motivation to continue to be "on track" given the damage.

Curious to see how others manage to balance things out without missing out on the lovely food but still trying to be on track, even when on holiday.

The struggle is real....

I focus on healthy foods first

Fruits and Greek yog at breakfast

Salads at lunch and dinner then meats (steaks chicken breasts etc)

Drink alcohol on alternate nights

Go to the weird hotel gym 2 or 3 x under duress and do weights session and a 10 min jog

Finally, I say a prayer to baby jesus I have maintained when I get home

Well done on your weight loss so far!

I managed to stay the same on holiday last year. I did it by drinking loads of water, exercising most days (a 20 minute hotel workout in the morning), opting for healthier options (eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, meat, veg and healthy carbs for dinner). I had some wine too, but just didn’t go mad. I didn’t feel as though I was deprived at all.

Have a lovely holiday!

It shouldn't be too difficult

Walk/swim lots

Lots of veggies and meats

Avoid bread/ spanakopita

Just enjoy yourself and be super strict for a week after. Don’t miss out, we only live once.

Im vegetarian and really struggle in spain as the other food options arent great. I dont eat egg either. Normally we go to greece and i come back feeling great as i live off greek salads, olives and dont snack like i do at home! And swim swim swim and as i dont like lounging by the pool (overactive mind) i do long walks along the beach, leaving dh and kids by the pool. But yep spain is harder. And cold atm so swimming isnt for the faint-hearted.

Id suggest avoid bread and dont snack unless it’s olives. Because they are lush. Look for fruits for breakfast and desserts. Walk walk walk. Find hills to climb. big lunch, small evening meal. Drink sparkling water with a slice of lemon rather than lemonade.

eat like a local and walk like a tourist.
